Features & How to Enjoy

Classic Nature

Highlights

Point 1

Visit the Elegant Enyotei

Okayama Korakuen Visit the Elegant Enyotei
"Enyotei" is a historically valuable building and the most important one in the park. It was designed to offer a panoramic view of the beautiful scenery both inside and outside the park, and it is said that the feudal lords of the past used to admire the view from here. Although it was destroyed by war once, it has been reconstructed using the same high-quality wood and techniques as before. During events such as moon-viewing and New Year's, there are also koto (Japanese harp) concerts held, allowing you to spend a charming time.
Point 2

See Unusual Buildings

Okayama Korakuen See Unusual Buildings
"Ryuten" is a nationally rare building with a waterway running through the center of the building and six oddly colored rocks placed around it. It used to be used as a resting place for the lord's garden and entertaining guests. Although it has a simple appearance, the surrounding area is overflowing with colorful plants, and the contrast between the building, waterway, and plants is beautiful, making it worth seeing.
Point 3

Admire the Island Tea House Floating on the Pond

Okayama Korakuen Admire the Island Tea House Floating on the Pond
While strolling through Okayama Korakuen Garden, you will notice a large pond called "Sawa no Ike" in the center of the park. The pond has several islands, and on one of them, called "Naka no Shima," you can see a building that looks like it's floating on the water, called the "Island Tea House." As the name suggests, you can enjoy a cup of matcha at the tea house, so why not spend some leisurely time there?
Point 4

Stroll through a Fantasy Garden at Night

Okayama Korakuen Stroll through a Fantasy Garden at Night
At Korakuen Garden, during certain periods in spring, summer, and autumn, the "Fantasy Garden" is held where various parts of the garden are illuminated. Not only are different areas lit up, but in spring, gentle lights illuminate the carp swimming in the pond, and in autumn, you can see the illuminated autumn leaves, allowing you to feel the seasonal atmosphere. Why not spend a magical night with someone special and experience the fantasy garden?
Point 5

Enjoy the Plants of Each Season

Okayama Korakuen Enjoy the Plants of Each Season
Various plants are planted throughout the park, allowing you to see different faces depending on the season. In February, when it's still cold, you can see about 100 bright plum blossoms in the plum garden. In spring, you can see the Somei Yoshino and double cherry blossoms reflected on the water surface, and in June and July, you can see lotus flowers blooming on the water surface. In autumn, you can tour the park as it becomes brightly colored with autumn leaves. Even during New Year's, camellias and sasanquas are in bloom, so there's no need to worry about missing out no matter which season you visit!
Point 6

Participate in the Tea Picking Festival

Okayama Korakuen Participate in the Tea Picking Festival
Every year on the third Sunday of May, the "Tea Picking Festival" is held. This is a historic event that began in 1956, featuring the "Tea Picking Dance" and actual tea picking by the tea picking girls. It's a rare sight to see the girls in traditional costumes harvesting tea leaves, so if your visit coincides with the festival, be sure to check it out. If you make a reservation in advance, you can also experience tea picking and take home the tea leaves you pick. Why not have a valuable experience?
Point 7

Take a Break at the Park's Shop

When you're tired from walking around, take a break at one of the park's shops. There are several shops and tea houses in the park, such as "Shikisai," which uses local ingredients to serve hearty meals, and "Sazanami Chaya," located next to the beautiful scenery of Renchiken. You can choose according to your needs. The recommended item is the exclusive plum jam soft serve ice cream at "Sazanami Chaya." It's made from plums harvested at Korakuen and is the perfect dessert, especially during hot seasons.
