A Must-See for Railway Fans! Tsuyama Manabi Railway Museum

The Tsuyama Manabi Railway Museum is a railway museum located in Tsuyama City, Okayama Prefecture. The museum, which was renovated from an old roundhouse, displays steam locomotives, diesel locomotives, and railcars. In addition, there is an "Ayumi Room" where you can learn about the history and mechanisms of railways, making it a highly satisfying exhibition for railway enthusiasts and even those who don't usually have much exposure to railways.

Take a Break at the Relaxation Plaza

Next to the exhibits at Tsuyama Manabi no Tetsudokan (Tsuyama Railway Learning Center), there is a space called the "Relaxation Plaza". While eating and drinking is generally not allowed inside the museum, it is permitted in the Relaxation Plaza. Take a break on one of the benches while visiting the museum, or enjoy a light meal. The Relaxation Plaza is located right in front of the railway tracks, allowing you to get a close-up view of the active vehicles entering and leaving the tracks. This is a highly recommended feature.

Convenient Access from JR Tsuyama Station

The Tsuyama Manabi no Tetsudokan is located in a prime location just a 10-minute walk from JR Tsuyama Station. By the way, it takes about 65 minutes to get from Okayama Station to Tsuyama Station on the Tsuyama Line Express. If you want to use a bus, take the GonGon Bus Kojunkan Line bound for Tsuyama Manabi no Tetsudokan from bus stop number 1 at Tsuyama Station. There are also rental bicycles available in front of the station, so cycling is recommended for those who want to explore the tourist spots in the temple.

平日にいったので混雑もなくゆっくり見学。動輪や機関車は身近で見ると巨大。正午と3時に鳴らすD51の汽笛の生音はテレビなどで聞きなれた音とは異次元の大音量で空気の振動を感じる感動ものです。スマホの動画再生では本物の音とくらべものにならない。是非本物を実感してください。扇形機関車庫の天井が真っ黒なのはSLの煙りの跡かな？　津山の一日を再現した鉄道ジオラマショーも面白い。1台しか製造されなかった機関車展示や巨大な転車台など、博物館としての規模は小さいが鉄道大好きな人にはたまらない場所でしょう。アップした汽笛の動画はなぜか音声がきえてます。職員の方が柱のレバーをゆっくり引くとあの汽笛が大音量で車庫に鳴り響きます。本物を聴いて下さい。。。

鉄道に興味なくてもそれなりに楽しめると思いますが、長時間過ごせるほどでは無いと思います。さくっと10分、ゆっくりでも20〜30分ぐらいの感じかな。鉄道好きな人はもっと長く居れると思いますが。 12時と15時にSLの汽笛を鳴らすようで、折角ならそのタイミングに訪れた方が良さそう！（自分はたまたまその時間に訪れて汽笛を聞けて感動した）

駐車場無料、津山駅からも徒歩ですぐの便利な鉄道博物館。大宮や京都の鉄道博物館と比較して規模は小さいものの、展示されている鉄道に乗って触れられてとても素晴らしいです。扇形機関車庫や転車台等々、実際に入って見学出来ます。とても楽しめました。感動です。是非、鉄道好きでなくても津山に来られた際は訪問、お奨めです。
