Accessible in 20 Minutes from Tottori City
The nearest station to the Tottori Sand Dunes is JR Tottori Station. You can access the dunes in about 20 minutes by taking the Iwami-Iwai Line or the Sakyu Line from Tottori Station. If you're coming from outside the prefecture, the nearest airport is Tottori Sand Dunes Conan Airport. From the airport, you can take a connecting bus to Tottori Station, which takes about 40 minutes. As it's also easily accessible from Tottori City, it's recommended to use a taxi when traveling with small children.

Parking

Two Free Parking Lots Available
When visiting the Tottori Sand Dunes by car, it is recommended to use either the "Sand Dune Center Observatory Hill Parking Lot" or the "Observatory Parking Lot". Both parking lots are free and have a total of 450 parking spaces. The Sand Dune Center parking lot is available 24 hours a day, making it convenient for those visiting the Tottori Sand Dunes at night. It's only a 5-minute walk from the parking lot to the sand dunes.

この日の鳥取砂丘は雪が残っていました。そして初めての鳥取砂丘はやはりスケール感に圧倒されます。高さ47mの壮大な砂の丘「馬の背」とよばれているそうです。急斜面を登りきると目の前には日本海が広がり、はるか遠くの海岸線まで見渡すことができます。 結構な運動量になるので靴は歩きやすいものが必須です。

ウン十年ぶりに訪れた有名な鳥取砂丘。バスツアーなので限られた時間での駆け足訪問となり、感傷的な思いはありませんでした。現地の情報では雨の為、観光のラクダさんも引き上げたとか。とりあえず行けるとこまで行こうか、という感じでした。 砂丘到着です。寒さもしみる年末近い夕暮れ時、天気は晴れなのか小雨なのか分からないような不思議な雰囲気。でも普通に行けそうです。時間もあまりないので、まずは勢いで「馬の背」まで登ると、砂塵だ、あられだ、虹だと天気のカオス状態でした。😅 夕暮れ時と相まって、凄い光景を見る数分間を過ごしました。思ったより砂は固めで、天気や場所にもよるのでしょうが、私たちは砂自体ではあまり苦労しませんでした。お土産屋さんまで戻ると、すっかり辺りは暗くなってました。ガイドさん曰く「持ってるお客様達」だそうです。

一面銀世界の鳥取砂丘、圧巻の景色でした。冬の鳥取砂丘も最高でした。ラクダさんはお休みでしたが子供達も楽しめます。雪で靴、ズボンが濡れないように砂丘センターで二足350円でビニールカバー売ってますのでお勧めです。
