Highlights

Point 1

Observing Wild Animals

Asahiyama Zoo Observing Wild Animals
Asahiyama Zoo is a facility that gained attention for its exhibition method called "behavioral exhibition," which was ahead of other zoos in the country. The exhibition method reproduces the way animals live in the wild, and the "Marine Way (cylindrical water tank)," where you can observe the distinctive swimming style of seals, is a symbolic facility of Asahiyama Zoo. When you visit, please enjoy the lively appearance of the animals living their lives.
Point 2

Enjoy the Winter Zoo

Asahiyama Zoo Enjoy the Winter Zoo
Asahiyama Zoo is a zoo with plenty of attractions even in the winter season when snow falls. One of the attractions that has gained attention nationwide is the penguins' march, where they waddle on the snow. In a seasonal event that is limited to when snow falls, you can observe their ecology up close while protecting the penguins' feet. Additionally, you can experience a different kind of fun at the zoo in the winter, as animals that live in cold regions, such as polar bears, are more active.
Point 3

Learn about Animal Ecology

Asahiyama Zoo Learn about Animal Ecology
Asahiyama Zoo not only allows you to see the cute appearance of the animals, but also has signs handmade by employees installed next to the animal enclosures, allowing you to learn about the ecology and habits of the animals. Not only are there words, but there are also cute illustrations and furigana added to the kanji, making it easy for children to read. It's also recommended as a place for elementary school children to do their own research during summer and winter vacations.
Point 4

Interact with Cute Animals

Asahiyama Zoo Interact with Cute Animals
At Asahiyama Zoo, in addition to just watching the animals, the "Children's Farm" facility, where you can actually interact with the animals, is popular. Medium-sized animals such as goats and sheep, as well as small animals such as guinea pigs and hamsters, are kept here, making it an area that both adults and children can enjoy. It's also recommended for children to visit as a learning experience, as they can experience the body temperature and smell of the animals.
Point 5

Enjoy Gourmet Food

Asahiyama Zoo Enjoy Gourmet Food
At Asahiyama Zoo, there are many shops selling delicious gourmet food. You can enjoy local specialties such as soft serve ice cream made with fresh Hokkaido milk, Jingisukan (grilled mutton) and Asahikawa ramen. Among them, the most popular is the "Asahiyama Zoo Club Main Gate Shop/Pan-ya" which sells freshly baked bread and the Hokkaido classic "jaga butter" at the main gate area. Since the menu consists of easy-to-eat items, please be sure to visit when you get hungry during your walk.
