Evolving artistic aquarium
In 2009, the "Jinbei Shark Hall Blue World" opened. In 2018, a large-scale renovation was carried out, and for the first time in a Japan Sea aquarium, projection mapping was used. The fantastic circular tank, which is colored with music and light, is so mesmerizing that you will forget the time.

Highlights

Point 1

Enchanted by the World of Blue: The Whale Shark

Notoshima Seaside Park Aquarium Enchanted by the World of Blue: The Whale Shark
The main attraction of the Notojima Aquarium is the whale shark. Despite being the largest fish in the world, this gentle giant is popular for its calm and relaxed swimming style. As soon as you enter the aquarium, you'll be greeted by the main exhibit, the "World of Blue," a huge tank where the whale shark resides. The exhibit is unique in that it features a gentle slope that allows you to slowly descend into the fantastical blue water and observe the swimming fish from various angles. Starting from a position where you can peek into the water's surface, you may be lucky enough to see the whale shark swimming just below. You can enjoy the sensation of diving into the blue world while observing the powerful whale shark from different angles.
Point 2

Corridor Illuminated by Projection Mapping

Notoshima Seaside Park Aquarium Corridor Illuminated by Projection Mapping
At the "Noto Kaiyuu Corridor" in the main building, which is the first aquarium on the Japan Sea side to constantly project projection mapping, you can enjoy a spectacular display. Originally, the area was impressive with its lively fish swimming in a large aquarium, but incorporating this production has transformed it into a new and unique space. The vividly projected images on the ceiling and floor have multiple patterns, and a fantastic world unfolds without getting bored. The images do not disturb the fish in the aquarium, but rather enhance the main attraction. There are also several photo spots available, so try taking some photogenic pictures.
Point 3

Dolphin and Sea Lion Show

Notoshima Seaside Park Aquarium Dolphin and Sea Lion Show
The dolphin and sea lion show is a popular attraction at the Notojima Aquarium, featuring multiple Pacific white-sided dolphins and California sea lions in a 20-minute performance. The dolphins' performance in the dolphin pool with a view of the ocean is exhilarating, especially when they jump high and create a big splash, earning applause from both adults and children. There is also a participatory corner where selected children become instant trainers and give support to the dolphins. Of course, the sea lions also play a big role and entertain the audience with their charming and skillful tricks. Be sure to secure a good seat and enjoy the show!
Point 4

An Artistic Space with Floating Jellyfish

Notoshima Seaside Park Aquarium An Artistic Space with Floating Jellyfish
The sight of jellyfish floating and swaying softly is truly fantastical. At the jellyfish corner of the Notojima Aquarium, the addition of artistic elements creates the ultimate healing space. Four cylindrical water tanks and mirrors are illuminated with LED lights, and the floating moon jellyfish in the water give off a somewhat sci-fi vibe. The "tunnel tank" that displays jellyfish on the ceiling and walls is like a large painting, and its beauty is captivating enough to keep you watching for a long time.
Point 5

Penguin Walk

Notoshima Seaside Park Aquarium Penguin Walk
When it comes to popular attractions at aquariums, penguins have always been and continue to be a favorite! At the Notojima Aquarium, there are many Magellanic penguins that inhabit the waters near the Magellan Strait in South America, and they delight visitors with their adorable appearance. Penguins are particularly unique in the way they waddle around, and visitors can enjoy a walk with them during designated "penguin walk" times. Watching the penguins walk in a line, following the fish, is one of the most popular events at the aquarium. However, please note that the walk may be cancelled depending on the penguins' health or other circumstances, so be sure to check the aquarium's website for updates.
Point 6

Tunnel Tank Where You Can Hear Dolphin Sounds

Notoshima Seaside Park Aquarium Tunnel Tank Where You Can Hear Dolphin Sounds
This is Japan's largest tunnel tank, measuring 22 meters in length and holding 1,200 tons of water. Its biggest attraction is undoubtedly the dolphins swimming energetically inside. When standing inside the tunnel, several dolphins swim and play right above and beside you. Standing inside the tunnel where the natural light shines and sparkles, you'll feel like you're at the bottom of the sea.
Point 7

Watching Penguins Waddle Around

The penguin pool is a place where you can observe the adorable Magellanic penguins swimming and resting. It's very soothing to watch them. At the Notojima Aquarium, there is an event called "Penguin Walk" where the penguins come out of the pool and walk around in a waddling parade on the visitor's path. The approximately 10-minute walk time is very popular with both children and adults, as the penguins come right up to the visitors and show off their charming gestures. *The event may be canceled depending on the penguins' condition.

Access

20 Minutes by Car from Wakura Onsen
The Notojima Aquarium is located on Noto Island, which is further across a bridge from the Noto Peninsula and away from the center of Ishikawa Prefecture. If you are coming by car from Kanazawa, Fukui, or Osaka, it takes about an hour and a half from the Kanazawa Morimoto IC on the Hokuriku Expressway. From Toyama, Nagoya, or Tokyo, it takes about an hour from the Oyabe Tonami JCT on the Hokuriku Expressway. With about 1,100 free parking spaces, there is hardly ever a problem finding a spot to park. However, during events and Golden Week, there may be traffic congestion after crossing the Noto Ohashi Bridge, so be sure to check traffic information when going by car. If using the train, take any train to Wakura Onsen Station and then take a bus for about 30 minutes to reach the aquarium.

Required time

Take Your Time to Enjoy the Abundance of Sights at Notojima Aquarium
Notojima Aquarium is full of attractions. The facility consists of multiple buildings, and it takes about two hours to leisurely explore the spacious grounds. If you plan to watch events and shows such as the dolphin show, you should allow for about three hours. Depending on whether you eat at the snack bar or one of the well-equipped dining halls, the required time may vary. As the aquarium is located right by the sea, on a sunny day, you may end up staying longer, enjoying the sea breeze.
