Maeda Toshiie and Matsu prayed at Noto Ichinomiya.
As the name suggests, this is a famous power spot where a lot of "ki" (energy) gathers. It is also known for its matchmaking benefits. The shrine is located within a 3,000 square meter primeval forest, and there is a "forest of no entry" that has been protected as a sanctuary since ancient times.

Features & How to Enjoy

Highlights

Point 1

Full of Blessings for Matchmaking and Safe Childbirth

Kitadai Shrine Full of Blessings for Matchmaking and Safe Childbirth
Kitataisha Shrine is famous nationwide for its blessings for matchmaking, and is also a popular spot for fulfilling wishes related to love, attracting many visitors throughout the year. As the name suggests, Kitataisha Shrine is a power spot with various blessings, as it is said to have a lot of "ki" or energy. In recent years, it has become more popular to purchase amulets and offer prayers online, making it possible for those who find it difficult to visit in person to receive blessings as well. In addition to love, it is said to have effects on relationships with family and friends, and also has blessings for safe childbirth.
Point 2

The Sacred Place "Forest of No Entry"

Kitadai Shrine The Sacred Place "Forest of No Entry"
Behind the precincts, a primeval forest spreads out, and inside the shrine gate, the "Forest of No Entry" is off-limits. Within the 30,000 square meter area, there is a dense evergreen broad-leaved forest, including ancient trees that are 300 to 500 years old. It is a rare, untouched forest of high academic value, which is rare in modern times. In 1997, it was designated as a natural monument of Japan. In the midst of all this, from December 1st, 2019, for one month, only those who had prayed for a certain amount during the "Kino-ha Festival" were allowed to take three or four steps into the forest. It was a rare opportunity to enter the forbidden forest and became a hot topic.
Point 3

Free Prayer "Tsuinamijimi"

Kitadai Shrine Free Prayer "Tsuinamijimi"
"Tsuinamijimi" is a festival held on the first day of every month where you can receive a limited free prayer. The prayer has various benefits such as love fulfillment, family harmony, and safe childbirth, and it's always popular to receive it for free. Please note that if there are many applicants, the reception may be closed. For those who can't come from afar, there is consideration for participating online. It's great that you can easily participate.
Point 4

Heart Knot Festival Illuminated by Candles

Kitadai Shrine Heart Knot Festival Illuminated by Candles
画像引用:気多大社公式
At the Heart Knot Festival held every year on August 13th and 14th, you can experience a free purification and misogi ritual (although it may be cancelled depending on the situation). Unmarried women are not allowed to participate in the misogi ritual, but they can have a special experience wearing the design of a shrine maiden and performing the purification. On the 13th only, a "Candle Night" is held on the shrine grounds as part of the "Noto Hometown Expo," which is quite fantastic. The main shrine is illuminated with projection mapping, creating a space that feels like another dimension along with the flickering flames of the candles. If you have the chance, please visit this event where you can have a valuable experience.
Point 5

Tying the Knot for Happiness at "Musubi Shin'en"

Kitadai Shrine Tying the Knot for Happiness at "Musubi Shin'en"
Just before the forest of no entry, near the subsidiary shrine of Taiyu Shrine, there is a place where stones engraved with "Musubi Shin'en" are placed, which is one of the power spots in Kitataisha. Musubi Shin'en is a large stone, and it is said that if you stack small stones on top of it, you can have a happy love life.
Point 6

Boldly Written "Ki" Stamp

The stamp known as "goshuin" has become firmly established as a receiving item at temples and shrines. With an increase in unique goshuin stamps, there seems to be a growing number of collectors. The goshuin stamp from Kitataisha Shrine is popular among collectors. The large square shrine name stamp is stamped in red ink with "Kitataisha" written largely in the center. Additionally, "Noto-kuni Ichinomiya" is stamped in the upper right corner, showing the high status of the shrine. Goshuin stamps, goshuincho (stamp books), and amulets can be received at the shrine office on the right side of the precincts. The initial offering for the goshuin stamp is 300 yen.
Point 7

The Handsome Deity "Oonamuchi-no-mikoto"

The deity enshrined at Kita Shrine is Oonamuchi-no-mikoto, also known as Ookuninushi-no-mikoto. Many may have heard of him as the same enshrined at Izumo Taisha. But why did Ookuninushi-no-mikoto become the god of matchmaking? According to Japanese mythology, he was a handsome and popular deity who had many wives. Furthermore, he had 181 children, which is why he is considered a deity who brings together men and women, and also brings blessings of fertility.

Access

Kitadai Shrine Recommended: Free Shuttle Bus "Hanayome Noren"
Recommended: Free Shuttle Bus "Hanayome Noren"
Kitada Shrine is located in the city of Hakui, which is more than 40 kilometers away from the center of Kanazawa and close to the sea. Depending on the time of day, it takes about two hours to get there by car. Although there are few buses, there is an express bus from Kanazawa Station to Kitada Shrine. The nearest station is JR Hakui Station, which is a 10-15 minute bus or taxi ride away. On the 1st of every month, there is an event called "Tsuichigatsu Yui" and a free shuttle bus called "Hanayome Noren" operates from Kanazawa Station to Kitada Shrine to coincide with the event. However, it is reservation-only and there is only one bus in the morning and one in the afternoon. If the timing works out, it's a great deal, so please consider using it.

Sightseeing

Kitadai Shrine Recommended for sightseeing by car or rental bicycle
Recommended for sightseeing by car or rental bicycle
Kitadai Shrine, famous as a power spot and a spot for matchmaking, attracts tourists from all over the country. If you go by car, you can visit various tourist spots on the Noto Peninsula, but if not, the location is inconvenient for surrounding sightseeing. For tourism in Hakui City, if the weather is good, you can also use the "rental bicycle" available at the east exit of JR Hakui Station. The appeal is that you can tour sightseeing spots such as the Chirihama Nagisa Driveway and Chirihama Rest House at your own pace! It takes about 30 minutes to get to Kitadai Shrine, so if you are confident in your physical strength, please consider it.

History

Kitadai Shrine Kita Shrine, the Most Important Shrine in Etchū Province
Kita Shrine, the Most Important Shrine in Etchū Province
Kita Shrine is a historic shrine with a prestigious history. During the Nara period, the poet Ōtomo no Yakamochi visited the main shrine while working in Noto and composed a poem that was included in the Manyoshu anthology: "If you cross the Shio-no-michi road straight, the sea of Hakui is calm in the morning. I wish I had a boat and an oar." During the time when Noto Province was part of Etchū Province, Kita Shrine was considered the most important shrine in Etchū Province and received strong protection from successive lords such as the Hatakeyama and Maeda clans.
