Hankyuji

Hankyuji Temple is the site where Takaoka Yoro-in, founded by Zaisan Zaita, the founder of Kannonji Temple, was established and has historical value. It was built by Rennyo, the eighth generation of Honen-ji Temple, in 1471 during the third year of the Bunmei era. The temple grounds include a monument of a poem by Ootomo Yakamochi and a monument of the Echizen Provincial Office. Hankyuji Temple is located about 20 minutes by car from the center of Takaoka City, and there are tourist spots such as the Himi Fishing Port Market and Ajo Castle in the surrounding area. It is a must-see place for history enthusiasts.

At Hankyu-ji Temple, there are wooden 500 Arhat statues with colored glass eyes in the corridor. These statues were donated by the nearby area after the late Meiji period, and are impressive to see. The colored glass eyes are a characteristic feature, and each statue has a different expression. You can spend a quiet time while appreciating the 500 Arhat statues.

At Hankyu-ji Temple, you can receive a goshuin, a seal of the temple's name and date that can be taken home as a talisman. We recommend bringing a goshuincho (a book for collecting goshuin) and visiting the temple. Hankyu-ji Temple is also featured in the goshuin pilgrimage map of Toyama Prefecture, making it a useful reference for travelers collecting goshuin.

At Hanko-ji Temple, there is a quiet atmosphere that serves as a healing place for visitors. Even on holidays, there are few visitors, allowing you to spend a quiet time. In addition, there is a beautiful garden with autumn leaves on the grounds, attracting many tourists in the fall.

In Himi City, there are places such as Himi Fishing Port Market and Himi Onsenkyo Souyu, while in Takaoka City, there are places such as Takaoka Castle and Koshu Ichinomiya Takase Shrine. In addition, there are many famous kaiseki restaurants in the area around Hakujuji Temple, where you can enjoy kaiseki cuisine made with local ingredients.
