Gokurakuji

Gokurakuji Temple is a quiet Buddhist temple located southwest of the Kinosaki Onsen area. The temple grounds feature a beautiful stone garden called "Seikan-tei," a mountain gate, and ink paintings on sliding doors, all of which are impressive sights to behold. Additionally, if you pass through the cemetery in the back, you'll come across a clear spring water called "Dokko-sui." This water is said to be a "water of longevity," and is considered the source of the spiritual hot spring "Mandara-yu," which is said to have been chanted by the monk Dochi from the Eight Mantra Sutra. In this beautiful natural setting, you can refresh both your mind and body.

At Gokurakuji Temple, you can experience Zen meditation. Even if it's your first time, you can easily participate by making a reservation and receiving instruction on how to meditate from the head priest. After the meditation, you can enjoy a leisurely time while being served matcha green tea and Japanese sweets. By calming your mind, you can heal the stress and fatigue of your trip.

There are many tourist spots around Gokurakuji Temple, such as Kinosaki Onsen and Izushi. Kinosaki Onsen is a popular tourist spot with attractions such as the Takeda Castle ruins and Kinosaki Marine World. In Izushi, the Izushi Castle ruins and the famous local dish "sara soba" are well-known. The surrounding area is also worth visiting, with attractions such as the nature-rich Hattan Falls and the Jin'ya Plateau.
