During the same period, other famous spots in Arashiyama, such as Togetsukyo Bridge and Katsura River, are also lit up, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful and majestic natural scenery at night. Please note that some years the event may not be held due to factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic, so be sure to check for the latest information on future events.

In Arashiyama, a popular tourist spot, you can take a rickshaw tour. When touring the bamboo forest on a rickshaw, there are narrow paths exclusively for rickshaws. On these paths, you can enjoy the serene atmosphere of the bamboo forest away from the hustle and bustle of the pedestrian walkways. The rickshaw pullers are professionals in Arashiyama tourism and can also act as your guide. For a more memorable sightseeing experience, be sure to take a rickshaw tour of the bamboo forest path.
Point 3

Historic Nomiya Shrine

Arashiyama Bamboo Grove Historic Nomiya Shrine
Nomiya Shrine is a spot you'll definitely want to visit when you come across it on the path through the bamboo grove. It is a historic shrine that appears in "The Tale of Genji" in the chapter "The Wise Tree," and was a place where the Saigu, a woman who served the gods in place of the emperor, purified herself. There are also blessings for matchmaking and safe childbirth, and it is said that if you pray while touching the turtle-shaped stone on the shrine grounds, your wish will come true, making it a lucky spot.
Point 4

By wearing a kimono, which is different from your usual attire, and taking a stroll or taking photos, you are sure to have a more memorable trip.

Representative Spots in Arashiyama that can be Visited in 20-30 Minutes
This is a path where tall bamboo groves spread out as far as the eye can see. It's only a 10-minute walk, but it's recommended to set aside about 20-30 minutes to slowly savor the unique atmosphere and nature of the bamboo grove that is typical of Japan. Nearby, there are famous spots in Arashiyama such as Togetsukyo Bridge, Tenryuji Temple, and Nonomiya Shrine. Since the required time is relatively short, it's recommended to visit this spot along with other tourist spots.

Access

Bamboo Grove 5 Minutes on Foot from Arashiyama Station
Just a 5-minute walk from Arashiyama Station on the Keifuku Electric Railroad, an 8-minute walk from Saga-Arashiyama Station on the JR Sagano Line, and a 15-minute walk from Hankyu Arashiyama Station, this bamboo grove is within walking distance of Arashiyama's gateway. It's also close to other tourist spots in Arashiyama, making it a must-visit spot when sightseeing in the area. Nearby attractions include Tenryu-ji Temple, Togetsukyo Bridge, and Nonomiya Shrine, so it's recommended to visit them as a set. As it's crowded with many people on holidays due to its accessibility, it's recommended to visit early in the morning if you want to take photos without people or want to enjoy sightseeing at a leisurely pace.
