1月中旬なので人がおらずとても落ち着いていました。 桜や紅葉のシーズンは賑わう重要文化財です。そのときの風景も気になりますが、この広さと穏やかな空気感を鑑賞者がいないときに見れたのも贅沢でした。

2022年11月26日に参拝しました。 地下鉄東西線の小野駅から徒歩で約10分。一本道なので迷うことはないと思います。 下調べをしていなかったので、あまり期待をしていませんでしたが、山門をくぐると境内はとても広く、立派な宸殿や書院、庭園や池などがあり、紅葉も十分に楽しめ1時間以上滞在していました。 平安時代には、毎年1月2日、こちらの池に張った氷を宮中に献上していたそうです。 小野駅の反対側に随心院、ちょっと足を伸ばせば醍醐寺があるのでセットでの参拝がオススメです。

地下鉄小野駅から徒歩5分少々の場所に位置する真言宗のお寺です。醍醐天皇が母藤原胤子の菩提を弔うために創建されたとのことです。 本堂の千手観世音菩薩立像、宸殿の天井の造り、書院の土佐光起筆の近江八景図、土佐光成筆の龍田川紅葉図等の壁画も大変な見所ですが、氷室の池を中心とした池泉庭園も圧巻です。周囲の山とも調和し、水戸光圀公寄進の灯籠、灯籠を覆うように生えている植樹ハイビヤクシン(樹齢750年)も魅力的です。
