弘法大師空海が真言密教の修行の場とした真言宗総本山の寺院で、「教王護国寺」とも呼ばれます。創建は796年で、その後820年代に嵯峨天皇から空海に下賜されてから、伽藍の整備が進められました。国宝の五重塔は歴史都市「京都」を象徴するランドマークとして有名ですね。また、講堂にある空海がプロデュースしたとされる立体曼荼羅も見どころの1つで、大日如来を中心として21体の仏像が整然と並ぶ姿は大迫力です。境内の庭園も美しく、春はこの塔を背景にして優美の咲き誇る紅枝垂桜「不二桜」が見事です。また、秋は塔と紅葉が境内の池の水面に映り込む様が美しく、夜間のライトアップも一見の価値があります。 ■予約：不要 ■料金：五重塔初層、金堂・講堂（800円）、※夜間特別拝観（1,000円） ■アクセス性：京都市営バス「東寺東門」「東寺南門」下車すぐ、近鉄京都線「東寺」徒歩10分 ■補足：※世界遺産古都京都の文化財の構成資産

京都駅から程近く、ココロ洗われた良い時間を過ごす事が出来ました。久しぶりの京都。仕事の関係で前乗りしたので少しでも京都観光をと思い駅からも徒歩圏内の東寺へ初めての参拝でした。あいにくの雨で午後の訪問でしたが次々と参拝者が訪れます。五重の塔の特別拝観が出来るとの事で足を進めますが皆さま左手に進まれます色鮮やかに梅が咲いていました。バックに五重の塔を撮せますので皆さん真剣です。雨が降ってより鮮やかでした。五重の塔の内部は圧巻でした。中でガイドさんが解説して頂け理解が深まりました。先人の高い技術力に関心ばかりでした。国宝の仏像が数多く建物も大きく京都の奥深さを肌で感じる事が出来ます。五重の塔、講堂、金堂どれも圧倒されます。季節でまた違う姿を愛でる事が出来そうです。時間が許せば観智院もおすすめです。こちらは対照的に研鑽の場として違う雰囲気を味わえました。これからは不二桜の出番ですね、ナカナカ訪問は叶いませんが是非、再訪したいと思います。

第59回京の冬の旅、非公開文化財特別公開中で高さ約55ｍの日本一高い世界遺産の五重の塔の初層内部を観てきました。極彩色の文様で彩られ、大日如来に見立てた心柱を囲んで金剛界四仏が安置されていました。また東京スカイツリーにも採用されている心柱制振技術の基礎となる部分も一見でした。国宝の金堂に祀られている薬師三尊像、重要文化財の講堂の21体の仏像が形成している立体曼荼羅(まんだら)も拝観できとても満足しました。
