発掘されたキトラ古墳の壁画を通して古墳時代を理解出来ます。体験館、と言うだけあってシアターや様々な視聴覚展示でわかりやすく説明してくれます。 周囲の景観に配慮してか、目立たないように作ってあるので見つけにくいです。駐車場からも道路を潜るトンネル通路があり、お金がかかっています。 近くにある高松塚古墳にも足を伸ばして、是非両方とも行ってみることをお勧めします。 PS: 余談ですが昭和に発掘された高松塚古墳の資料館と、平成に建てられた本館では余りにもお金のかけ方が違っていて驚きます。ChatGPTによれば建設予算は15億と35億で、それぞれ時の国家予算の0.03%と0.04%だそうです。でも、昭和のシンプルだけどきちんと本質を押さえた展示で充分ではないか、とも思いました。

予約が必要だが、季節ごとに展示が変わる古墳石室内の壁画の実物を見ることが出来る。肉眼だけでの鑑賞もできるが自分の単眼鏡があるとよい。オペラグラスの貸し出しもある。館内のレプリカはフラッシュ無しなら撮影ができる。解説ビデオも丁寧で興味深い。本当にこれが無料でいいの?と思うぐらい充実した施設。

無料で駐車場あり。 3種類の無料シアター上映もあり、飛鳥をよく理解できます。料金支払っても良いくらい、素晴らしい施設! 見晴らしの丘からの景色も良い。職員さんの対応も良かったです。傘持ち込み禁止。 世界遺産! ますます有名になることでしょう。
