Water flowing from the mountains forms rivers, and there are many waterfalls scattered throughout the area, including Chigo Falls, Mikari Falls, Hikari Falls, Gongen Falls, Arataki Falls, and Ota Falls. It is a scenic spot where the waterfalls flow one after another. There are also camping sites near the hiking trails and Hikari Falls, so after sightseeing the waterfalls, enjoy outdoor activities and camping!

Takihata 48 Waterfalls Multiple Powerful Waterfalls
What sets Takihata's 48 waterfalls apart is that it's not just one waterfall, but multiple. Water from the Kii Mountains springs forth and flows down as several waterfalls, including Ootaki, Mikotaki, Hikaritaki, Gongentaki, Chigotaki, and Arataki. Of these, Hikaritaki, Arataki, and Mikotaki are relatively close to each other, and the sight of the waterfalls right before your eyes is truly awe-inspiring! Hikaritaki splits into a V-shape and falls about 8 meters, with the light shining on it creating a mystical view. Arataki falls about 10 meters and splits into two on its way down, creating a powerful yet gentle shower-like flow. Mikotaki falls about 12 meters, allowing you to fully enjoy the force of the waterfall right before your eyes! Please soak up plenty of power from the waterfalls.

Kotaki Temple is located in Takihata, a place rich in nature with 48 waterfalls. It is the only temple remaining in Takihata and was named after the nearby Kotaki waterfall. It is said to have been built by the Imperial Decree of Emperor Kammu, and many Buddhist statues were moved to Kotaki Temple from abandoned temples. There is also a charcoal-burning Fudo-do hall said to have been made by Kukai on the temple grounds. As it is within walking distance from the campsite and Kotaki waterfall, it may be a good idea to stop by when doing outdoor activities or hiking.

At Takihata 48 Waterfalls, hiking trails are maintained. The hiking trails are surrounded by rich nature, allowing you to enjoy hiking while feeling the healing power of nature and negative ions. Even in the summer, you can feel refreshed and comfortable while hiking! The three waterfalls that visitors to the easily accessible Takihata 48 Waterfalls hiking trail often visit are Hikari Falls, Ara Falls, and Mikari Falls. You can reach Hikari Falls in about 5 minutes from the campsite near Hikari Falls Temple. It takes about 15 minutes from Hikari Falls to Ara Falls, and about 30 minutes from there to Mikari Falls. You can also reach Ootaki Falls in about 40 minutes from Mikari Falls. Exercise in nature can be very healing!

One of the attractive points of Takihata 48 Waterfalls is that you can enjoy the outdoors. You can pitch a tent at the campsite or stay in a well-equipped bungalow. You can also play in the river and enjoy the rich nature while being healed. In addition, there is a barbecue area, making it highly recommended for those who want to fully enjoy the outdoors. It's perfect for making memories with children or friends! Furthermore, if you make a reservation in advance, you can also use the tent サウナ service. With rental tents and stoves available, you can experience a real サウナ in the midst of nature! It's sure to be a unique outdoor experience that will leave lasting memories.

Parking

Using the Parking Lot at Mitsutaki Temple Campsite
If you go to Takihata 48 Waterfalls by car, you can use the parking lot at Mitsutaki Temple Campsite. The parking fee is 1000 yen for regular cars, plus an additional 200 yen for environmental cooperation. If you go a little further into the mountains, there is a parking lot at Aratakicampsite, but you cannot use it unless the parking lot at Mitsutaki Temple Campsite is full and the gate is closed. It is recommended to check the parking lot at Mitsutaki Temple Campsite first before using it.
