聖徳太子が建立した由緒ある寺院で歴史的には法隆寺に匹敵する名刹です。残念ながら大阪のど真ん中にあることもあり数々の災害や戦災に遭い、主だった伽藍はすべて灰燼と帰し、中心となる五重塔や金堂などの建造物は戦後の再建です。 それでも、天王寺駅近くの街中で驚くほど広大な敷地を持っておりさすが名刹だと感じます。 境内の北西部には江戸期に作られた伽藍がいくつか残っており良い雰囲気になっています。 有料(300円)の庭園は、意外に広く滝、水流、池などが配置されており、アベノハルカスの借景も面白く、なかなか楽しめました。

家族の供養に毎年参拝するお寺です。あえて和宗を名乗られてますが、宗派の壁の無い庶民の為のお寺さんなので、聖徳太子にも弘法大師にも伝教大師にも参拝出来ます。創建は古く格式も高いですが、水掛け不動、亀井の井戸、お地蔵様ゾーン、五重塔&伽藍、宝物館、仁王門。もはやお寺のテーマパーク。参拝時は古本市を開催してました。2025/6/15までは宝刀2振りが近くの「日本国宝展」に出展中の為、2本がモデルのゲーム「刀剣乱舞」のキャラクターポップアップが、南側のお土産・授与品販売所に設置されてます。御朱印集めのゲスト様は納経所へ行けば境内の色々な御朱印を記帳出来ます。

五重塔は最上層へ上がると、大阪市内が一望に眺められ、金堂の菩薩尊像や堂内の壁画は釈尊の誕生から涅槃などの図は圧巻です! 拝観料は大人¥500でした。
