Many visitors from both inside and outside the prefecture come to visit. During the Edo period, it was deeply believed by the Tokugawa shogunate as a way to ensure the prosperity of their family and descendants. Myogi Shrine has many attractions, such as the sacred tree, the inner sanctuary, the main hall, and the worship hall located within the precincts. Moreover, there is a pond with swimming carp just past the torii gate, which adds to the atmosphere. In addition, the surrounding area of Myogi Shrine is rich in nature, including Mt. Myogi, and is popular as a base for mountain climbing and hiking. In the autumn when the leaves of Mt. Myogi turn red, the shrine is illuminated, creating a fantastic scenery. 前回の訪問に続いて、2025年1月3日に「妙義山(相馬岳)」登山の前に参拝しました。 犬連れの場合はリード装着は必須。 もちろん糞などの始末は自身でしっかり行う事。 日光東照宮とはまた違った装飾の門や社殿が印象的な神社です。

すごい登ります。そして石段の幅が狭く踵がつかなくてつま先だけで登るような足に負担がかかる参道です。足腰の弱い方は参拝前に良く下調べをして、無理はなさらないほうが無難な神社です。写真で伝わるかわかりませんが載せておきます

上毛三山の一つで妙義山を御神体とする古社。本殿・幣殿・拝殿(3殿で一括指定)、総門、唐門が重要文化財の指定を受けている。本殿と拝殿は日光東照宮と同じ権現造りで、二殿が一体となっている。豪華絢爛たる装飾が目を惹く。この神社も明治初期の神仏分離令以前は神仏習合の施設であり、石堂寺という別当寺の管理下にあった。現在の総門は元は石堂寺の「仁王門」であり、今でも一対の仁王像が安置されている。上毛三山の中では境内が最も開放的かつ広大で、整備が行き届いている。神社ではなく寺なのではないかと錯覚しそうだが、江戸時代までは実質的に寺院なのである。現代人は寺と神社を区別してイメージしてしまうが、昔の人にはそんな区別など全く意味をなさなかった。明治の神仏分離令は偏執的なイデオロギーによって日本古来の宗教観、信仰形態を暴力的に破壊してしまったと言える。 本殿前の石段は急傾斜の165段!足に自信のない方は楽な迂回路(参拝客は主に下りに使っている)があるから、そちらから登った方が良い。少し遠回りになるが足への負担は格段に少ない。
