Korakuen is a Japanese garden that is counted as one of Japan's three famous gardens, along with Okayama's Kourakuen and Kanazawa's Kenrokuen. It was established by Tokugawa Nariaki, and the garden is also famous for its abundant plum trees, with around 3,000 trees in the garden. Kodo-kan is a school built by the Lord of the Ibaraki Domain, Tokugawa Nariaki, during the late Edo period, and is considered an excellent example of Japanese architecture. Today, it serves as a museum exhibiting the history and culture of the Ibaraki Domain. The courtyard of Kodo-kan features a relocated Buddhist temple from the Ibaraki Domain's Bodai-ji Temple, adding to its charm. Both Kairaku-en and Kodo-kan are historical buildings from the Edo period, offering cultural experiences as tourist spots. By visiting both Kairaku-en and Kodo-kan, you can immerse yourself in the history and culture of Ibaraki.

It was presented to Tokugawa Nariaki, the lord of Mito, during the Edo period and is considered one of Japan's top three gardens. The garden is dotted with ponds of various sizes and offers views of diverse landscapes, including the remains of a samurai residence, tea rooms, stone bridges, a garden with a winding stream, and a dry landscape garden. Visitors can enjoy seasonal flowers such as about 3,000 plum trees and about 10,000 azaleas. In addition, there are tea houses and restaurants in the garden, allowing visitors to enjoy the garden while dining. This place is not only popular for enjoying the beautiful nature of the four seasons but also for feeling the culture and history. Why not take a stroll when you visit Mito?

日本三名園の一、水戸藩九代藩主徳川斉昭公の開設になる天下の名園として、あまりにも名高い場所です。 そして偕楽園と言えば、なんといっても梅。今年も梅まつりが行われています。 ただし最近の寒波の影響か、開花はかなり遅れ気味で、2月下旬の時点でも多くの木がつぼみのままでした。 とはいえ、梅の品種が多いのもこちら偕楽園の特徴。早咲きの梅の中にはちらほらと花を咲かせるもの、三分咲きくらいになって美しい姿を見せてくれるものも見受けられます。 広い園内を歩き回って、そういう梅の花を訪ね歩くのもなかなか楽しいものでした。 それにしても梅園の規模の大きさ、好文亭などの景色の美しさには圧倒されます。 かつて入園無料であった偕楽園も、現在は梅の季節のみ有料(320円)になっています。でもそれだけの価値は十分にあると、改めて感じました。

2月23日の午前中、美しい景色が広がっていましたが、梅の花はまだあまり咲いていませんでした。もし満開だったら、さらに素晴らしい光景だったことでしょう。そんな中、お猿さんがやって来ていて、とても可愛らしい姿を見せてくれました。また、屋台もたくさん出ており、にぎやかな雰囲気が楽しめました。

梅祭り期間中の早朝に伺いました。 平日ということもあり、人が少なくゆっくりと見物する事が出来ました。 2月末はまだ満開とは言えず、少ししか開花してませんでしたが、綺麗な梅が見れました^ ^ さすが日本名園です。
