A National Treasure with Roots in the Warring States Period
Matsumoto Castle, designated as a national treasure, is a historic castle built during the Warring States period. It is said to have been built by Ishikawa Kazumasa and Yasuchika, retainers of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, on the site where a castle called "Fushimi Castle" was originally built. Later, Matsumoto Castle was ruled by those with close ties to the Tokugawa family. In 1930, it was designated as a national historic site, and after the end of World War II, it was developed not only as a castle but also as a park.
