Exploring Historical War Sites

The Matsushiro Shōyama Underground Imperial Headquarters is an underground headquarters used by the Japanese military during World War II and is now open to the public as a museum. Inside the underground headquarters, weapons, daily necessities, medical equipment, and other items used by the Japanese military are on display, making it a fascinating place for those interested in history. There are also other tourist spots in the surrounding area, such as the Matsushiro Castle ruins and the Takesan Suigō Inari Shrine, making it possible to enjoy the area all day long. When visiting, it's important to maintain a quiet atmosphere and observe proper manners.
Point 2

A Structure Like an Underground Labyrinth

The Matsushiro Underground Imperial Headquarters has a structure like an underground labyrinth, resembling a place straight out of an anime. It is approximately 1.5 kilometers long and 20 meters deep, and underground there are facilities such as hospitals, dining rooms, bedrooms, conference rooms, communication rooms, and power plants. A dedicated guide is required for tours, and during the guided tour, the guide will explain the details of the underground headquarters. When visiting, be sure to pay attention to the maze-like structure while touring.
Point 3

Free and Open War Memorial Site

The Matsushiro Shogawa Underground Fortification is a free and open war memorial site. There is no admission fee, but reservations are required in advance. The tour takes about 30 minutes, and since there are dark and narrow places inside the underground fortification, it is recommended to wear comfortable clothing. There are also tourist spots such as Matsushiro Castle Ruins and Takeyama Suigokojinja Shrine in the surrounding area. This is a must-see spot for history buffs and those who want to learn about war.
Point 4

An Area with a Wealth of Tourist Spots

The area around the Matsushiro Shōzan Kakkō has many tourist spots, such as the Takeyama Suigo Inari Shrine and the Matsushiro Onsen. It's also located about a 30-minute drive from Nagano City, so you can combine it with sightseeing in Nagano City. Nagano City also has tourist spots such as the Daihon'ei Site and the Nagano City Art Museum. It's recommended as an area where you can enjoy yourself all day.
Point 5

Tourist Spot to Visit on a Sunny Day

We recommend visiting the Matsushiro Shōyama Underground Imperial Headquarters on a sunny day. This is because if the weather is bad, it may be difficult to tour the underground labyrinth due to the darkness. You can check the weather information on the tenki.jp website, which specializes in weather forecasts. In addition, there are other tourist spots in the area, such as the Matsushiro Castle Ruins and the Takesan Zuiho Inari Shrine. Why not visit on a sunny day?
