History

A Hot Spring that has been closely connected with the villagers since the Edo period
The current Nozawa Onsen Asagama has been used by villagers since the Edo period. Before that, it was called Kama-tan (the edge where hot water boils), but it came to be called Asagama because the hot spring here was used to peel hemp skins during the Edo period. Currently, only villagers are allowed to enter Asagama. Villagers use it to boil eggs and vegetables. It is a hot spring that has been closely connected to the lives of Nozawa Onsen residents as their kitchen for over 300 years.
