Highlights

Point 1

The Striking "Crimson Tower" in Harmony with Nature

Chitadodou Suspension Bridge The Striking "Crimson Tower" in Harmony with Nature
Anyone who comes to see this suspension bridge will undoubtedly be captivated by the bright red tower and railings that appear as they pass through the forest. Normally, the combination of fresh greenery and a red suspension bridge may not seem like a good match. However, in this bridge, the refreshing forest greenery and the towering crimson tower create a surprisingly beautiful picture. Additionally, this bridge is quite sturdy and doesn't sway much when walking on it. It's also wide enough for pedestrians to pass each other, making it safe to cross.
Point 2

A Must-See Collaboration of Vibrant Red Autumn Leaves and a Bridge

Chitadodou Suspension Bridge A Must-See Collaboration of Vibrant Red Autumn Leaves and a Bridge
Every year from late October to mid-November, the maple trees around the Senjyogadake Suspension Bridge turn a vibrant red. The area around the bridge is no exception, with maple trees in shades of red, yellow, and orange. It's a great experience to see the endless chain of mountains from the top of the suspension bridge, or to view the bridge and the autumn leaves at the same time from the Asahiyama Observatory, located just above the bridge.
Point 3

Enjoy the Contrast of White and Red in Winter!

Chitadodou Suspension Bridge Enjoy the Contrast of White and Red in Winter!
In Niigata Prefecture, the mountains are closed off by heavy snow during the winter. As a result, the Chigando Suspension Bridge is also closed during the winter season when snow falls. However, in winter, the Chigando Suspension Bridge creates a beautiful scenery with its snow that piles up and the bright red beams, creating a red and white contrast. In fact, locals regularly remove the snow to prevent the bridge from collapsing under the weight of the snow. If you visit during the summer, be sure to thank the locals and use it as an opportunity to strike up a conversation.
Point 4

Experience the Great Outdoors with Trekking in the Summer!

Chitadodou Suspension Bridge Experience the Great Outdoors with Trekking in the Summer!
The area around Sengan-do Suspension Bridge has been designated as a trekking course for Mt. Kuni. You can choose a trekking course according to your own physical strength and time. It's only a 3-minute walk from the parking lot at the Bunamizu Visitor Center to Sengan-do Suspension Bridge, and from there, you can reach the mountaintop in about 30 minutes. It's a course that even beginners can handle, so why not refresh yourself in the great outdoors of Niigata while you're there to see the suspension bridge?
Point 5

Refresh Yourself in a Footbath after Experiencing Nature

Chitadodou Suspension Bridge Refresh Yourself in a Footbath after Experiencing Nature
At "Michi no Eki Kunisaki," located about a 5-minute drive from Funamizu Visitor Center, there is a natural hot spring called "Temari no Yu." It's actually the only natural hot spring in Tsubame City. Next to the hot spring is a large footbath that you can use for free! It's perfect for when you don't have time to soak in the hot spring but want to relieve some foot fatigue. They also offer light meals, so you can eat when you get hungry from trekking.

Fee

Free Admission and Parking!
There is no fee to enter and hike around the Kuniyamadou Suspension Bridge and the surrounding Mt. Kuniyama. You can visit not only the bridge, but also the Gogouan (a place associated with Ryokan), the Asahi Mountain Observatory, the Kuniyamaji Temple, and the Rokkakudo (a place associated with Minamoto no Yoshitsune) for free, which is quite a deal! The parking lot is located at the Enshi Bunsui Visitor Service Center, a 3-minute walk from the Kuniyamadou Suspension Bridge. Parking is also free here!

Access

30 Minutes by Car from Niigata City!
The Chigando Suspension Bridge is located within easy reach, just a 30-minute drive from Niigata City. It's recommended for those who want to take a little trip but don't have time to go to Nagaoka or Kashiwazaki in the Chuoetsu area from Niigata City! If you're coming by car, it's a 30-minute drive from the "Tsubame-Sanjo IC" if you're coming from the Niigata City area, and a 30-minute drive from the "Nakanojima-Mitsuke IC" if you're coming from the Tokyo area. If you're coming by train, it's a 10-minute drive from "Bunsui Station" on the JR Echigo Line.

History

Chitadodou Suspension Bridge A Place Connected to the Revered Monk Ryokan and Children in Nature
A Place Connected to the Revered Monk Ryokan and Children in Nature
Do you know about the revered monk Ryokan, who is loved in Niigata Prefecture? Ryokan was a monk during the Edo period who, despite being born into a prestigious family, gave up his position and played with children in a simple lifestyle. Ryokan, who did not settle down in one place, lived for 11 years in the "Gogouan" located on the opposite bank of the Senjugahara Suspension Bridge. When you cross the suspension bridge and find the simple hermitage in the forest, why not imagine Ryokan's life at that time and his connection to children in nature?
