While there are many hot spring inns in Yahiko Onsen, some people may have to return home on the same day after sightseeing at Yahiko Shrine and other places. For those people, we recommend "Sakura no Yu", a day trip hot spring located just 7 minutes by car from Yahiko Station. In addition to a large public bath, there are also outdoor baths, rock サウナs, a lounge room, and a dining area, allowing you to take a long break. The hot spring is effective for lifestyle diseases such as chronic skin diseases, chronic women's diseases, cuts, and diabetes, and also has a whitening effect!

Minoya Ryokan, a long-established inn with over 300 years of history in Yahiko Village, not only offers hot springs where you can feel the nature of Yahiko, but also various attentions to make your stay enjoyable. One of them is the food. They prioritize "ingredients first" and offer exquisite dishes using local seasonal ingredients from Niigata for every meal. In addition, there is a wide variety of local sake, so you can enjoy Niigata's sake with your meal. Furthermore, you can also enjoy the nature of Yahiko Village from your room, making it recommended for those who want to refresh themselves away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Yahiko Onsen is a recommended hot spring resort for those who want to travel alone and take it easy. Even for those who find it difficult to be alone in their daily lives, isn't it one of the joys of traveling to indulge in solitary thoughts amidst the grand nature and serene atmosphere of the shrines here? A recommended inn for solo travelers is "Nadaiya". They have plans that are very well-suited for solo travelers. Additionally, Yahiko Shrine is right in front of the inn, so you can visit the shrine during times when there are fewer people, such as early morning.

Yahiko Onsen in Winter is Wrapped in a Fantastical Atmosphere

Yahiko Onsen in Winter is Wrapped in a Fantastical Atmosphere
Starting from the first half of January (sometimes the end of December depending on the year), Yahiko Onsen is covered in pure white snow. The hot spring resort, blanketed in snowflakes falling silently to the ground, exudes a fantastical atmosphere unlike any other season. Yahiko Shrine, with its contrast of white snow and black buildings, looks stunningly beautiful, like a landscape painting. Moreover, soaking in a hot outdoor bath while exhaling white breath is sure to heal both your mind and body. Please visit Yahiko Onsen in winter, being careful of your footing along the way.

Every year in late July, a large festival called "Yahiko Tōrō Matsuri" is held at Yahiko Shrine. Large lanterns dedicated from various parts of the prefecture and small lanterns dedicated by local parishioners are placed in front and behind the dancers of both the Shinkagura and Teninbushi, and they parade through Yahiko Village. The atmosphere of the parade is further enhanced by the performance of Kagura by the shrine priests and staff. While enjoying the hot springs, why not take the opportunity to witness the large-scale Kagura procession unique to the village that can no longer be seen in the city?

History

Yahiko Onsen The Legend of the "Godly Hot Spring" that Heals the Wounds of Birds and Beasts
The Legend of the "Godly Hot Spring" that Heals the Wounds of Birds and Beasts
According to the legend of the Yumijinja Onsen, the source of Yahiko Onsen, about 1000 years ago, a village hunter went deep into the mountains to chase a wounded mountain bird. There, he found a pond where birds and beasts were taking a bath. It is said that when the wounded mountain bird soaked in the hot spring, its wounds were immediately healed! Truly a "godly hot spring" that heals wounds. This sacred spring has already dried up, but Yahiko Onsen was created in its image. Yahiko Onsen today has no less effect and efficacy than the former sacred spring.
