400km-long tunnels make up Japan's largest gold and silver mine.
This is Japan's largest gold and silver mine, with 400 km of tunnels. It was opened in 1601 and supported the finances of the Tokugawa shogunate for 300 years. Inside the tunnels, the mining process is reproduced by electric dolls. The mining industry heritage remaining in the surrounding area is covered with moss and vegetation, making it look like a huge ancient ruin.

Sado Kinzan is a scenic spot that can be accessed by taxi or bus. If taking a taxi, it takes about 60 minutes from Ryotsu Port and about 80 minutes from Ogi Port. If using public transportation only, take the Sado Kinzan or Aikawa-bound bus from Ryotsu Port and get off at the "Sado Kinzan-mae" bus stop, which is just a short walk away. In addition, shuttle buses directly to the Kinzan operate depending on the season and day of the week, so check the official website for details.
