巨大なエントツが背景にそびえる綺麗に整備された公園です。炭鉱で使用された設備が残っています。博物館は必見ですね。

まさに炭都田川を象徴する公園。田川伊田駅からも徒歩圏内。園内の石炭歴史博物館では田川地域における石炭産業の歴史を紹介しているほか世界記憶遺産の山本作兵衛の炭坑記録画も見ることができる。園内には田川のシンボル二本煙突や炭坑節発祥地の碑などもあり、石炭産業全盛期の田川に思いを馳せることができる。

駅から公園へは地図上では迂回になりそうですが、駅左側の地下道でスグです。入館料400円の博物館では採掘時代の道具や住まいなど見学できますが、特にVRでの坑道行き映像が上出来でリアルでした。(2024.6)
