Jyozankei Onsen

At Jozankei Hot Springs, known for its natural hot springs, you can tour a hot spring town brimming with steam and historical charm. With a history of over 1800 years, the steam rising from the hot water creates a picturesque view. In addition, accommodations line the Jozankei River gorge, and when you pass through the mountain path and see the Jozankei River valley, steam rises from all over the town across the river. The retro atmosphere of the ryokans and back alleys is also charming, making it a popular off-the-beaten-path hot spring town.

At the Jigokumushikobo Kannawa hot spring, a low-salt hot spring with high skin-beautifying effects gushes forth, allowing you to polish your skin to a shine. The gentle warmth of the water, which is close to neutral and weakly alkaline, is also appealing. Additionally, it is a famous hot spring with a source that flows directly into the bath, located on the border between Higo and Bungo prefectures. There are also tourist spots in the surrounding area, such as the "Nabegataki Falls" and "E-Koi" where you can fully enjoy the skin-beautifying effects!

Around the Jozaki Hot Springs, there are many tourist spots such as the Shimojo Waterfall and the Kichijou no Yu, making it a surefire way to create memories with your family. In Tsutsumi Hot Springs, there are many inns and hotels that welcome you in a warm space that makes you feel the warmth of wood unique to wooden architecture. The Japanese-style inn, Sennya, is a calm and peaceful inn with 14 rooms, and its wooden flooring allows you to relax as if you were in an old Japanese house. In the Jozankei Onsen area, you can enjoy local cuisine. The main focus is on dishes made with local ingredients, such as horse sashimi and sweetfish, which are in season and delicious. Recommended accommodations include the Hidayaya Ryokan, where you can enjoy various baths such as a rock bath and an open-air bath right next to the river, and the Ito Ryokan, which offers dishes mainly made with local ingredients.
