Hinata City's number one scenic spot with steep cliffs
From the 70-meter-high cliff of Hyuga Cape, you can overlook a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean. Also, the newly completed skeleton projection observation space in the spring of 2022 is very thrilling and recommended!

Highlights

Point 1

Enjoy Thrilling Scenery!

Hyuga Cape and Umagase Enjoy Thrilling Scenery!
Located on the southern side of the Nichinan Kaigan National Park, which stretches 120 km from Oita to Miyazaki Prefecture, is the Hyuga Cape. At the tip of the cape, the "Uma no Se" stands out, jutting out into the sea, and you can enjoy a fantastic view from the top of the 70m high cliff. With cliffs on both sides, it may make you feel a bit dizzy, but the scenery of the endless horizon, the deep blue sea, and the rugged rock face of the Uma no Se is breathtaking. On the way to the Hyuga Cape Observatory, there is another observation spot called "Umagase Observatory." Here, you can experience a thrilling sensation with the "Skeltcher!" where you can see through the glass floor. For a test of courage, why not stand on the glass and enjoy the view?
Point 2

The Geological Formation of "Columnar Jointing," Boasting Japan's Greatest Height

Hyuga Cape and Umagase The Geological Formation of "Columnar Jointing," Boasting Japan's Greatest Height
The terrain of Cape Hinomisaki boasts a distinctive shape, with rugged rock faces that have split into impressive column-like shapes. These are known as "columnar jointing," formed when lava that flowed out during a volcanic eruption about 15 million years ago hardened. The scenery of "columnar jointing," which boasts a height of 70 meters, the greatest in Japan, is breathtaking, allowing you to feel the tremendous power of the ancient eruption. Be sure to also take note of the powerful cliffs!
Point 3

View the Sea of Cruz While Making a Wish

Hyuga Cape and Umagase View the Sea of Cruz While Making a Wish
At a corner of Hinata Cape, there is a breathtaking spot called the Sea of Cruz, where wishes come true. It's perfect for a romantic drive date with your significant other! From the observation deck with a bell monument, you can view the sea and see a view of the rocky shore that looks like the kanji character for "kanae" (fulfillment), which is said to make your wishes come true. It's just a short drive from the Umagase Observatory, so why not stop by both spots?
Point 4

Try the Famous Soft Serve Ice Cream at Magase Tea House

At the Magase parking lot, there is a shop called "Magase Tea House" where you can buy souvenirs and take a break after walking around Magase. They mainly sell light snacks such as onigiri and hot dogs, as well as souvenirs such as sweets and local sake, but the most popular item is the "Citrus Hebess Soft Serve Ice Cream," a specialty of Hyuga City! The refreshing citrus flavor and rich milk taste match perfectly, making it very delicious. If you've come all the way to Magase, be sure to try this unique flavor that you can only taste here before you leave!
Point 5

Take a Photo in Front of the Pure White Hososhima Lighthouse!

Hyuga Cape and Umagase Take a Photo in Front of the Pure White Hososhima Lighthouse!
About a 7-minute walk from Magase Observatory is the Hososhima Lighthouse, which is said to be photogenic due to its pure white color. It has also been certified as a "lighthouse of love," and taking a photo in front of the pure white lighthouse against the blue sky and sea makes for a cute and lovely shot! The area around the lighthouse has become a park with a tropical atmosphere typical of Miyazaki prefecture, so you can enjoy a leisurely date while taking a stroll.
Point 6

Observe the Flora and Fauna Living on the Promenade

Hyuga Cape and Umagase Observe the Flora and Fauna Living on the Promenade
The promenade that leads from the parking lot to the Magase Observatory is home to various subtropical plants and creatures that thrive in the warm climate. You can enjoy forest bathing while experiencing the atmosphere of the tropics and observing the plants. In early summer, you can see colorful hydrangeas, and throughout the year, you can spot birds such as bush warblers and white-eyes. The promenade to the observatory takes about 10 minutes and is a mountain path, so it's fun to walk while discovering the creatures of nature!
