This huge Yayoi period settlement, which evokes the era of the powerful Yamatai kingdom, has been designated as a special national historic site. The "Hokufun Kofun" is a special tomb believed to be the burial place of the successive kings of the Yoshinogari village. This tomb has a very sturdy structure and 14 coffins have been found inside, providing a clear picture of the excavation and burial at the time. Since the 1st century BC, the tomb has not been used as a burial place, but has been an important place where the spirits of ancestors rest. It's definitely worth seeing in person.

Excavations are still ongoing on the north side of the Yoshinogari Historical Park, and preservation and restoration work is underway. In order to protect important ruins, a preserved embankment of at least 30cm is built on top of the structure, and then additional embankment is added for restoration work to prevent damage to the important ruins. Depending on the timing, it's possible to visit the excavation site, so be sure to check it out.

At the Yoshinogari Historical Park exhibition room, you can learn more about the Yoshinogari ruins and the Yayoi period through displays of excavated items and panels introducing the flow of the Yayoi period. You can see various sized jar coffins, stone knives, glass tube beads, and more, as well as costumes restored to the time period. The exhibition provides a better image of life during that time, so please come and visit!

At the Yoshinogari Historical Park, you can experience things like "ringing a bronze bell" or "touching pottery," as well as activities like "starting a fire" and "making a magatama jewel." In particular, the limited weekend and holiday experience programs are highly recommended! You can even make souvenirs such as "mirror-making" or "seal-making for the King of Wa and Wei." Some activities take about an hour, so be sure to give yourself plenty of time to try them out.

In the Ancient Hara Zone, there are various recreational activities for both adults and children, such as playing with equipment, spots, and barbecues. "Yayoi Ono" is a 6-hectare lawn park where you can enjoy various recreational activities freely, and "Play no Hara" has 10 types of equipment such as complex play equipment and trampolines, which will make children very happy. In addition, there are plenty of play spaces, such as being able to play ground golf and having a BBQ at the outdoor cooking corner, so there is not enough time to play.

In the Kankou Settlement Zone, plants that grew naturally during the Yayoi period are planted to recreate the scenery of that time. Yoshinogari Site: A Moat-Encircled Village from the Yayoi Period
The Yoshinogari Site is a Yayoi period village encircled by a 2.5 km-long moat, making it the largest of its kind in Japan. Excavations began in 1986 and new artifacts are still being discovered today. This valuable archaeological site allows us to learn about the changes that occurred over the long period from the 3rd century BC to the 3rd century AD, and it's exciting to think that there may still be more discoveries to come.

Required time

At least 1.5 hours are necessary
The Yoshinogari Historical Park is about the same size as Tokyo Disneyland and has vast land, so it takes time to explore. If you focus on seeing things like the elevated storehouses and pit dwellings, you can go around in about an hour and a half, but it's a size where you can enjoy a full day if you visit every nook and cranny or participate in experience programs. Let's make sure to secure plenty of time for sightseeing since it's a special place!

Fee

Various Credit Cards are Accepted
The admission fee is 460 yen for adults over 15 years old, 200 yen for those over 65 years old, and free for junior high school students and younger. As Yoshinogari Historical Park is quite large, a two-day pass is also available for 500 yen for those who want to take their time and explore over two days. For those who live nearby, it's recommended to purchase an annual passport for 4,600 yen, which includes free parking. Various credit cards and electronic money are also accepted, so please visit with peace of mind.
