Highlights

Explore the Exhibited Vehicles by Going Inside

Shikoku Railway Cultural Center Explore the Exhibited Vehicles by Going Inside
Most of the exhibited vehicles at the Shikoku Railway Cultural Center can actually be explored by going inside! It's a valuable experience to be able to see and touch historic vehicles up close. The first-generation Shinkansen 0 series and diesel locomotives even allow visitors to sit in the driver's seat, which is sure to be a thrilling experience for children and railway fans alike! Uniforms and hats are also provided, so you can take memorable commemorative photos.
Point 2

Participate in Various Events

The Shikoku Railway Cultural Center regularly holds events related to railways and the local area. Every time you visit, you'll be excited to see different events, such as mini steam locomotive rides, station markets (selling recommended gourmet food and souvenirs!), and rare railway photo shops. However, please note that events may be canceled in case of rain, so it's best to check the official Facebook page before visiting!
Point 3

Impressed by the Large Railway Diorama

In the South Building, a railway diorama is on display, which reproduces the distinctive landscapes along the railway lines of the four prefectures of Shikoku, with a focus on the area around the nearest JR Iyo-Saijo Station. The diorama is recreated in the morning, afternoon, and evening, and with narration included, it gives you the feeling of actually traveling. It's made with great attention to detail, so perhaps those from Shikoku may even be able to discover their hometowns.
Point 4

Experience the Mechanisms of Trains at the Experience Corner

The South Building has a "Kids Experience Corner" where you can learn about the mechanisms of trains using building blocks and wooden toys. The rails and driving wheels used are actually from JR Shikoku, and there are experimental devices that use them to confirm the mechanisms of trains. It seems like a fun place to bring your children during summer vacation, and it could also be a good opportunity to study the mechanisms of trains.
Point 5

Memorable Souvenirs to Take Home

At the Tourist Exchange Center next to the Shikoku Railway Cultural Center, there is a corner selling local specialties and goods, making it the perfect place to buy souvenirs! The local specialties are sourced from within Saijo City, while the goods include original merchandise from the "Railway History Park in SAIJO". Taking home a souvenir related to a vehicle that caught your eye during a visit to the Railway Cultural Center will make for a great memento.

Explore in 30 minutes to 1 hour
The Shikoku Railway Museum itself is not very large, so you can explore it in about 30 minutes to 1 hour. Although there aren't many exhibits, most of the displayed vehicles can be entered, making it a must-see for railway enthusiasts. In addition, various events are held depending on the season, so if you want to participate in an event, it's better to allocate a little more time to fully enjoy the exhibits.
