The Aki City Calligraphy Art Museum is known as the first public calligraphy specialized art museum in the country. Inside the museum, there are approximately 2,000 works of calligraphers from all over the country, including works by Kawatani Yokun, Shotei Brothers, and Teshima Ukio, who are from Aki City. About 100 pieces are on display in the permanent exhibition, and national calligraphy exhibitions and special exhibitions are also held. In addition, the museum has a wealth of materials and books. Japan's First Public Museum Dedicated to Calligraphy!
The Aki City Calligraphy Museum is known as the first public museum in Japan dedicated to calligraphy. The museum opened in October 1982 and is located at the site of the Aki Castle ruins, which was once the residence of Taku Nakahara. Aki City has a long history of calligraphy and has produced many excellent calligraphers. The museum displays works by calligraphers from Aki City, such as Yokoun Kawatani, the Shoutei brothers, and Ukyou Tejima, as well as Chinese characters, kana, and calligraphy works. In addition, the Aki City Calligraphy Museum regularly holds calligraphy exhibitions, where you can appreciate masterpieces from all over Japan. Located at the site of the Aki Castle ruins, the Calligraphy Museum is a place worth visiting for calligraphy enthusiasts and those interested in culture!

Access

About 50 Minutes by Car from Nankoku IC
The access method to the Aki City Calligraphy and Art Museum is to take a bus from Aki Station on the Gomen-Nahari Line for about 10 minutes and get off at the Nohra Tokei-mae stop, then walk for about 5 minutes to arrive. It is also accessible by bus from the Dentetsu Terminal Building for about 60 minutes, or about 50 minutes by car from Nankoku IC. As the required time varies depending on the means of transportation, it is recommended to check the timetable and route information in advance. The museum is open from Sunday to Saturday from 9:00 to 17:00, with admission until 16:30. Closed on Mondays, holidays, and year-end and New Year holidays.
