Tourist Information of This Area
general.prefecture.
Uzushio whirlpools can be seen up close on the marine promenade.
This promenade offers a view of the Naruto whirlpools from a height of 45 meters above sea level. You can enjoy the powerful scenery of one of the world's three major tidal currents. In particular, the view from the observation deck, which overlooks the surrounding sea and whirlpools, is a breathtaking sight that can only be seen here.

Features & How to Enjoy

Highlights

Point 1

Peek through the Glass Floor

Tokushima Prefectural Uzu-no-Michi Peek through the Glass Floor
At the Whirlpool Path, you can experience peeking through the glass floor to see the whirlpool directly below. It's quite scary, even for those who aren't afraid of heights, but it's a valuable experience as it's not often that you get to look down at the sea from above a glass floor. The glass is made up of three layers and has never cracked before, so feel free to peek through without worry!
Point 2

Walk while feeling the actual wind

Tokushima Prefectural Uzu-no-Michi Walk while feeling the actual wind
The promenade of the Uzu no Michi is 450 meters long, and to prevent damage from strong winds, some parts of the wall are made of wire mesh. This allows you to take a walk on the promenade while the sea breeze passes through. However, since it is made of wire mesh, on days with strong wind and rain, it may blow in, so please be careful. Raincoats are sold at the reception, so it may be a good idea to purchase one.
Point 3

Check the Best Time to See the Whirlpools on the Website

Tokushima Prefectural Uzu-no-Michi Check the Best Time to See the Whirlpools on the Website
Whirlpools cannot be seen at any time of the day, and the time they can be seen also varies every day. They often appear before and after high and low tides, but on the official website of Uzushio Michi, you can check the "whirlpool appearance expectancy" for the day on a five-level scale. The tide table for the following day is also posted, so it's a good idea to check before visiting to increase your chances of seeing them!
Point 4

Discovering a Hole in the Bridge Pillar

Tokushima Prefectural Uzu-no-Michi Discovering a Hole in the Bridge Pillar
画像引用:渦の道
Did you know that there is a large hole on the opposite side of the entrance, just before you enter the ticket booth? Actually, the Uzu no Michi was created in the planned opening area of the Shikoku Shinkansen. Fifteen years after the Shikoku Shinkansen was cancelled due to domestic circumstances, the Uzu no Michi became a tourist spot. It's strange to think that the scenery visible from the Uzu no Michi was originally planned to be seen from the Shinkansen.
Point 5

Visit the Museum of Whirlpools and Sound

Tokushima Prefectural Uzu-no-Michi Visit the Museum of Whirlpools and Sound
Next to the Uzushio Road, the "Onaruto Bridge Memorial Museum Eddy" is a museum where you can experience the structure of the Onaruto Bridge and why the whirlpools of Naruto are formed. It's a spot where both children and adults can enjoy themselves, with a 360-degree monitor where you can experience the culture of Tokushima and a corner where you can learn about the whirlpools in a fun way. There are also combination tickets available with the Uzushio Road, so be sure to visit together when you go to the Uzushio Road!

Admission fees are 510 yen for adults, 410 yen for middle and high school students, 260 yen for elementary school students, and free for children under 6 years old! You can also purchase tickets online from Asobuyu, making entry smooth and easy. Access

Tokushima Prefectural Uzu-no-Michi Recommended to Access by Car
Recommended to Access by Car
Uzushio Road is conveniently accessible by car, just 5 minutes from the Naruto-Kita Interchange on the Kobe-Awaji-Naruto Expressway and about 30 minutes from downtown Tokushima. When using a car navigation system, it's recommended to set the destination as "Onaruto Bridge Memorial Hall Eddy" instead of searching for "Uzushio Road," as the latter may lead you to a different location. Additionally, there is no dedicated parking lot for Uzushio Road, so it's best to use the nearby "Naruto Park Parking Lot."

Required time

Tokushima Prefectural Uzu-no-Michi Be at Ease with at Least an Hour
Be at Ease with at Least an Hour
It's recommended to secure at least an hour for the round trip from the parking lot to the Uzushio Road, which takes about 20-30 minutes, and the 450m walking trail from the entrance of the Uzushio Road to the observatory, which takes about 30 minutes round trip. On the walking trail, you can feel the sea breeze and look down through the glass floor. If you also want to visit the adjacent "Onaruto Bridge Memorial Hall Eddy," it's safe to secure an additional 30 minutes.
