Highlights

Point 1

7-Minute Trip to a Breathtaking View

Daikanbo 7-Minute Trip to a Breathtaking View
Dai-Kanbo is a station located on the cliff of Mt. Tateyama. Standing at an altitude of 2,316 meters, the Tateyama Ropeway, which connects it with Kurobe Plateau Station, is the biggest attraction. From the ropeway, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the natural beauty that changes with the seasons, including the Kurobe Lake and the Hōō Mountain Range below. Interestingly, there are no support pillars between the ropeway stations. In the snow-covered Mt. Tateyama, there is a risk of pillars being swallowed up by the snow and breaking, so the ropeway was built using the "one-span method" that deliberately avoids support pillars. Thanks to this, there is nothing to obstruct the view during the ride, and you can truly enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view. The ride takes about 7 minutes, and while some may find it short and others long, it's an experience that makes many visitors want to come back in different seasons, making it easy to understand why there are many repeat visitors.
Point 2

Panoramic View from the Cloud Terrace

Daikanbo Panoramic View from the Cloud Terrace
As the Daikanbou Station is located on a pier, it's not safe to go outside. However, the station has a terrace on its rooftop, allowing you to enjoy a fantastic panoramic view without riding the ropeway. There are tables and benches, so you can relax and enjoy the clear air while taking in the beautiful mountain scenery. The Kurobe Plateau Station also has a rooftop terrace. Here, there is a promenade around the perimeter, allowing you to enjoy observing alpine plants and light trekking.
Point 3

Scenery Overlooking the Hida Mountains

Daikanbo Scenery Overlooking the Hida Mountains
When you step onto the terrace on the roof of the Tateyama Cable Car's Daikanbo Station, you'll be overwhelmed by the magnificent panoramic view of the Hida Mountains, also known as the Tateyama Mountain Range. These mountains are a series of peaks in the Hida Mountains, which run behind Tateyama as seen from Toyama Prefecture, and all of them are close to 3000 meters high. Daikanbo is 2316 meters high, so it's roughly the same height as the ridgeline of those mountains. In other words, the view from Daikanbo can be said to be at the level of the majestic peaks of the Northern Alps.
Point 4

Beautiful Kurobe Lake Viewed from Above

Daikanbo Beautiful Kurobe Lake Viewed from Above
Kurobe Lake is a dammed lake located near the border of Toyama and Nagano prefectures, at the uppermost part of the Kurobe River. It gained widespread recognition after being featured in the movie "The Sun of Kurobe" (released in 1968). The lake is a beautiful emerald green color and has been selected as one of the "Top 100 Dam Lakes" in Japan. While it's impressive to see the powerful water discharge up close, the view of Kurobe Lake from the Cloud Terrace of the Daikanbo or from the ropeway of Tateyama is also exceptional. The lake, like a floating jewel, is surrounded by mountains that change color with the seasons. Please enjoy the view from various angles.
Point 5

Breathtakingly Beautiful Autumn-Colored Carpet

Daikanbo Breathtakingly Beautiful Autumn-Colored Carpet
The magnificent Okanemine offers a charming encounter with natural beauty in every season, but it's during the autumn foliage season that it particularly captivates many people, drawing in tourists. Unlike the typical autumn foliage where trees change color, the foliage of Okanemine dyes the mountainside and the earth, creating a carpet of autumn colors as if spread out across the entire area. The carpet's true identity is alpine plants such as birch trees, rowan trees, and Japanese spindle trees. The best time to see the autumn foliage in this area is from late September to mid-October. It's a breathtakingly beautiful view that you'll want to see at least once in your lifetime.
Point 6

A Silver World Covered in Snow

Daikanbo A Silver World Covered in Snow
The "Snowy Otani Walk," a popular spring tradition at Tateyama, features snow tunnels that can reach up to 20 meters in height. From April to June, the Dai-Kanmuri peak is still covered in snow. After enjoying the snow tunnels, you can ride the ropeway at Dai-Kanmuri peak. The mountains surrounding the area are also covered in snow, creating a completely different natural beauty from the summer season.

Access

Daikanbo Routes available from Toyama and Nagano Prefectures
Routes available from Toyama and Nagano Prefectures
There are two routes to get to the Daikanbo viewpoint, one from Toyama Prefecture and the other from Nagano Prefecture. From Toyama, take the Toyama Chihou Railway to Murodo and transfer to a cable car and bus (there are also other methods such as direct buses from Toyama Station to Murodo). From there, transfer to a trolley bus and arrive at Daikanbo in about 10 minutes. From Nagano, take an electric bus and cable car from Omachi-sazawa Station to Kurobe Plateau Station. From there, take a ropeway to Daikanbo.

Parking

Daikanbo No Private Cars Allowed at Daikanfeng
No Private Cars Allowed at Daikanfeng
To get to Daikanfeng, you need to transfer to various modes of transportation. If you're coming by car from Toyama, you can park at the parking lot near the Tateyama Station of the Toyama Chihō Railway and take the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route from there. The parking lot around Tateyama Station is large and basically free. It has a capacity of about 900 cars, and during the tourist season, an additional 600-car temporary parking lot is available. In addition, from the 5th year of Reiwa (2023), a gated parking lot with a capacity of 207 cars will also be available. From the Nagano side, there is a parking lot around the Otsuza Station. In addition to a free parking lot with a capacity of 230 cars and a paid parking lot with a capacity of 350 cars, temporary parking lots for 600 to 800 cars are also available during peak times.

Required time

Daikanbo 7-Minute Ride on the Scenic Ropeway!
7-Minute Ride on the Scenic Ropeway!
Daikanbo stands on a cliff and for safety reasons, it's not possible to walk around outside. Instead, you can enjoy the panoramic view from the rooftop terrace or take the ropeway for a 360-degree view of the stunning scenery. The ropeway between Daikanbo and Kurobe Plateau is 1.7 km long and takes about 7 minutes to ride. Take your time and savor the majestic scenery that can only be seen from Daikanbo, from the special seat of the ropeway.
