History

The History of Yamanaaka Onsen, Continuing Since the Nara Period
Yamanaaka Onsen is a hot spring resort discovered by the Buddhist monk Gyoki during the Nara period, boasting a history of about 1,300 years. Many people have healed their illnesses and fatigue in its waters, and in the late Heian period, a beautiful hot spring was found and a ryokan was opened. Additionally, the haiku poet Basho Matsuo visited and is known for composing a poem about the fragrance of the hot spring in Yamanaaka. The rich history and natural charm of Yamanaaka Onsen continue to be passed down to this day.

Access

Access Information to Yamashiro Onsen
Access to Yamashiro Onsen is convenient. If using public transportation, the nearest station is Kaga Onsen Station, which is about a 25-minute ride on the express train from Kanazawa Station. Except for some ryokans, a shuttle service is available from Kaga Onsen Station, so please inquire with your accommodation. Alternatively, you can arrive by taxi in about 20 minutes (approximately 3,500 yen). Or, you can take the Kaga Onsen Bus and arrive at Yamashiro Bus Terminal in about 30 minutes (430 yen). Take the Onsen Yamashiro Line from bus stop number 2 on the right side after exiting the station gate. If you are coming by car, you can reach Yamashiro Onsen in about 30 minutes from Kaga IC or Katayamazu IC, as well as from Komatsu IC. Access to Yamashiro Onsen is convenient by using public transportation or a private car. Please choose the best method according to your convenience and preference.
