This ancient shrine is said to have been founded by Sakanoue no Tamuramaro in 807. It is enveloped in a solemn atmosphere and is famous as one of the most powerful spots in Tohoku. It is said that if you throw the "Oyori paper" given at the shrine into the lake and it sinks, your wish will come true.

History

Feel the Power at a Historic Shrine
Towada Shrine is located in Aomori Prefecture and was built on the shores of the nature-rich Lake Towada, with a long and ancient history. The shrine's founding dates back to the Nara period, and for over 1200 years, it has been the center of faith in the region. The name "Towada" is a combination of "tsuwa," meaning a sacred place, and "da," meaning a wetland used for rice cultivation, indicating that this area was once a wetland for rice cultivation. The main deities of Towada Shrine are Ookami no Mikoto and Sukunahikona no Mikoto, who are said to have divine virtues such as fertility, marine safety, and prosperity in business. Additionally, a grand festival is held every spring and autumn, making it a popular spot for locals and tourists alike to visit!
