Shrine dedicated to Matsudaira Sadanobu, lord of Shirakawa domain
Located within Nanko Park, this shrine enshrines Sadanobu Matsudaira. The Nanko Shrine Treasure Museum displays the personal belongings of Sadanobu Matsudaira. In addition, the "Rakuon Sakura" within the precincts is estimated to be about 200 years old and produces lovely flowers.

Nanko Shrine Must-See "Rakuon Sakura" on the Shrine Grounds
The "Rakuon Sakura" located on the grounds of Nanako Shrine is one of the most popular photo spots in Nanako Park. The Rakuon Sakura, a weeping cherry tree said to be over 200 years old, blooms with deep red cherry blossoms every April. It's also recommended to visit at night when the cherry blossoms are illuminated, creating a fantastic atmosphere with the light of the lanterns and the Rakuon Sakura standing out in the darkness.

At Nanako Shrine, there is a tea room called Shofutei Rakkan-an, which is said to have been used by Matsudaira Sadanobu. It has been designated as an important cultural property of Fukushima Prefecture. Due to damage caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake, repair work was carried out and visits and use of the tea room resumed. Inside, there is a hanging scroll written by Matsudaira Sadanobu himself, creating a space where you can feel the beauty of simplicity. In addition, tea ceremonies hosted by the "Shirakawa Tea Ceremony Association" are also held, and anyone can participate!

Summer "Cooling Procession Festival" with Great Excitement!

Every year in July, the "Cooling Procession Festival" is held at Nanako Shrine. It's a summer festival where a portable shrine carrying the spirit of Matsudaira Sadanobu is carried around the town. The "Shirakawa Mikoshi Association" of Shirakawa City and local residents and tourists gather together to perform a lively portable shrine procession. Participants get excited as they witness the spectacle of the portable shrine shaking from side to side amidst loud cheers. Experience the arrival of summer at Shirakawa's famous summer festival!

Nankojinja Shrine, Dedicated to Matsudaira Sadanobu
Nankojinja Shrine was established in 1922 and is dedicated to Matsudaira Sadanobu. It's known that Eiichi Shibusawa, known as the "father of Japanese capitalism," made great efforts in the establishment of the shrine. Nankojinja Shrine is also famous as the "god of matchmaking," and many Shinto weddings are held there. In the treasure museum, valuable materials such as Matsudaira Sadanobu's handwritten paintings and books are exhibited, so be sure to visit when you come.
