歌舞伎の名優である中村座の始祖、猿若勘三郎が猿若座(中村座)の興行を始めた。これが江戸歌舞伎の始まりだそうで、これを記念して昭和32年(1957年)に建立された碑。近くに青物市場である「大根河岸」の碑もあります。

銀座と京橋の境目になる高速道路の脇にあります。寛永元年(1624)年に中村勘三郎が中村座の櫓を立ち上げた場所。今、丁度歌舞伎座で十八世中村勘三郎の十三回忌追善やってます(2024年2月)。夜の部一幕めが「猿若江戸の初櫓」です!勘太郎が猿若、七之助が出雲の阿国です!

警察博物館に行った際に寄りました。大根河岸緑地帯内にあります。ここが江戸歌舞伎の発祥の地とは、とても意外な気がしました。
