別名亀岡城、亀宝城。 天守はなし。外堀跡は公園になってて自由やけど、曲輪は宗教法人の私有地になってるんで自由に見て回れん。有料、立ち入り禁止の場所もある。

2024年4月上旬、この年は開花が遅かったこともあり、ちょうど桜が満開の季節に訪れることができました。光秀ファンとしては、外せない土地・史跡のひとつ。信長から丹波方面軍を任された光秀が、最初に入部した山陰道の要衝。ここから信長をして「天下の面目を施し候」と絶賛せしめた、惟任日向守光秀の快進撃が始まります。そして、その後の本能寺の出来時も、ここからでした。 お城は、明治の廃城令後に所有者が転々とし荒廃していたものを、宗教法人(大本教)が買い取って、今に至るようです。私有地のため、すべての敷地に入ることはできないのが残念ではありますが、それでも亀山城の威容を感じるには十分でした。ルイス・フロイスにも築城の名手とまで言われた光秀入部に始まる、近世亀山の地は、豊臣・徳川の世になっても重要視されました。徳川時代には西国大名を動員した天下普請が行われ、現在の惣構に。今回は、早朝の散歩で訪れたので、本丸跡は時間外で入ることができませんでしたので、それはまたの機会にと思います。(9:30〜16:00。拝観料300円) 亀岡駅方面、南端の内堀に沿って広がる南郷公園は、桜がみごとでした。近年建立された光秀公の像も桜に囲まれて、威風堂々たる姿をみせていました。城址訪問の後は、駅北口の川べりから、保津川下りで嵐山へ。短時間の滞在ではありましたが、とても充実したひとときでした。
