Akiminami Onsen-gou, known as the oldest hot spring resort in Akita Prefecture, is famous for its abundant hot spring water and soft water quality. Each inn in Akiminami Onsen-gou has its own source, making it a luxurious hot spring resort that is popular among visitors. There are also open-air baths where you can soak while listening to the sound of the stream, giving you a taste of paradise. Among the many ryokans and hotels in Akiminami Onsen-gou, the famous "Innoshima Onsen" from the Showa era has been revived as a high-quality hot spring inn by Kyoritsu Resort. The hot springs in the resort flow directly from the source, providing a luxurious space to fully enjoy the natural hot springs. In the former Osaki-cho, located at the southernmost tip of Akita Prefecture, you can enjoy the hot spring town with "Takanoyu," which has an outdoor bath full of natural beauty, "Yunotai," which has a secret hot spring atmosphere, and "Innoshima Onsen," which is associated with Mushanokoji Saneatsu. Akiminami Onsen-gou is recommended for travelers who want to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of a hot spring town surrounded by nature, along with hot springs flowing directly from the source.

The drive course along the stream in the Akimiya Onsen area in autumn is a perfect course where you can enjoy the beautiful nature and scenic hot springs. While driving along the stream, you can enjoy the scenery of each season. Especially during the autumn foliage season, the view of the foliage along the drive course is breathtaking. However, the drive course is part of Akita Prefectural Road No. 2, and there may be road closures due to construction or other reasons, so it's recommended to check the information in advance before visiting. The drive course in Akimiya Onsen area is a great place where you can enjoy nature and hot springs at the same time. Why not visit when traveling to Akita Prefecture?

Trekking on Mount Kurikoma, known as the "Mountain of Flowers"!

Akino-miya Onsen-kyo Trekking on Mount Kurikoma, known as the "Mountain of Flowers"!
Mount Kurikoma, located in Yuzawa City, Akita Prefecture, is a 1,626-meter mountain that spans three prefectures: Miyagi, Akita, and Iwate. Known as the "Mountain of Flowers," Mount Kurikoma is home to various species of wildflowers, including the Hinazakura, which was selected for inclusion in Sumie Tanaka's book "100 Famous Mountains of Flowers," as well as the Iwakagami and Iwaichou. At the foot of Mount Kurikoma lies the scenic autumn resort area of Akiumi Onsen, which was beloved by literary figures such as Mushanokoji Saneatsu. The hiking trail to the summit of Mount Kurikoma has a significant elevation difference and requires moderate physical fitness and equipment, but the stunning panoramic views from the top allow you to experience a sense of unity with nature. Additionally, there is a mountain lodge near the summit where you can stay overnight. We recommend visiting Mount Kurikoma and Akiumi Onsen, a beautiful place with natural beauty throughout the four seasons, for those who love hiking and hot springs.
Point 5

Kawarage Jigoku: A Hellish Landscape of Erupting Volcanic Gas

Akino-miya Onsen-kyo Kawarage Jigoku: A Hellish Landscape of Erupting Volcanic Gas
Kawarage Jigoku is a desolate landscape where volcanic gas erupts from the ash-white mountainside where no plants grow. It is one of Japan's three great spiritual sites, alongside Mount Osore in Aomori Prefecture and Mount Tate in Toyama Prefecture. The surrounding area features the Kawarage Oyutaki waterfall, whose refreshing coolness contrasts with the hellish scenery. Located at an altitude of 800 meters, Kawarage Jigoku was once a thriving sulfur mining site, but now attracts tourists with its barren and desolate beauty. A stream flows through the middle of Kawarage Jigoku, and hot springs bubble up, but they are too dangerous to bathe in due to their high temperature. Kawarage Jigoku is a unique and fascinating place to enjoy the desolate scenery and the eruption of volcanic gas, like a scene from hell. However, it is also a dangerous place, so caution is necessary when visiting.
