Oyama Senmaida Capture the Beautiful Scenery of Traditional Japan in Photos!
The magnificent rural landscape of Atagoyama, with 375 terraced rice paddies lining its slopes, is so beautiful and charming that everyone can't help but take photos of it. It has been selected as one of "Japan's Top 100 Terraced Rice Paddies" and as a "Chiba Prefecture Designated Place of Scenic Beauty." While enjoying the breathtaking scenery, be sure to capture the beautiful landscape with your camera! Depending on the season and time of day, the color of the sky reflected on the surface of the rice paddies and the reflection of the sunlight changes. Especially during sunset, when the scenery turns bright red, it's truly a sight to behold! The key is to take photos from above the terraced rice paddies, capturing the entire rural landscape and the sky.
Point 2

Enjoy the Magnificent Views that Change with the Seasons

Oyama Senmaida Enjoy the Magnificent Views that Change with the Seasons
Oyama Senmaida is famous for the various views that change with the seasons. The beautiful scenery created by the water-filled rice paddies during planting season, which reflects the scenery like a mirror, can be seen from around April to June. From June to July, you can enjoy the lively scenery of fresh green rice plants, and from August to September, you can see the red spider lilies blooming in the fields. In autumn, you can see the golden scenery before the rice harvest, and in winter, you can see the snowy silver world of the countryside. Each view is completely different depending on the season, making it a charming spot that you'll want to visit many times throughout the year!
Point 3

Light-up and Night Festival Held in Autumn to Winter

Oyama Senmaida Light-up and Night Festival Held in Autumn to Winter
Among the four seasons, from late October to mid-January after the rice harvest, the countryside is illuminated at night, creating a fantastic sight. Along the edge of the terraced rice paddies, 10,000 LED lights shine, creating a romantic atmosphere that's perfect for couples on a date! Additionally, on the last Saturday and Sunday of October, the "Kamogawa Tanada Night Festival" is held, featuring fireworks and various performances such as taiko drums on a special stage, along with the light-up. With food stalls and a lively atmosphere, it's an event not to be missed!

Many people may want to try this beautiful countryside rice! At the restaurant "Kominka Restaurant Gonbei" located near the top of the terraced fields, you can enjoy a set meal made with rice harvested from the Oyama Senmaida terraced fields. The recommended dish is the "Onigiri Set Meal," which allows you to taste the natural flavor of the rice, cooked to perfection in a traditional kamado oven. In addition, the restaurant offers a variety of other dishes made with locally sourced ingredients, such as rice bowls, noodles, coffee, and desserts. If you're looking for a lunch spot before or after sightseeing, or just want to take a break, be sure to stop by!
Point 5

Discover Rare Plants and Animals in a Treasure Trove of Flora and Fauna!

Oyama Senmaida Discover Rare Plants and Animals in a Treasure Trove of Flora and Fauna!
Oyama Senmaida is the only terraced rice paddy in Japan that is cultivated solely with rainwater. Its unique feature is that it is environmentally friendly, with no ponds or waterways. As a result, many rare plants and animals, such as the endangered "Japanese giant salamander" and "starwort," inhabit the area, making it a great place to search for and observe unusual creatures. It's recommended for those who work with nature and animals, as well as for those who enjoy nature as a hobby or for parent-child nature learning. However, some creatures, such as the "red-bellied newt," are poisonous, so be sure to handle them with caution!
Point 6

Anyone Can Become an Owner of a Rice Field!

Oyama Senmaida Anyone Can Become an Owner of a Rice Field!
The terraced rice fields of Oyama Senmaida have an "owner system" where anyone can own their own rice field for 30,000 yen per plot per year. While it's necessary to participate in labor about seven times a year, such as planting and harvesting rice, local farmers will kindly teach beginners about rice cultivation and land management. This is recommended for those interested in agriculture, those looking for a new hobby, or those who want to grow their own rice. Don't miss out!

Access

Oyama Senmaida Only an Hour and a Half Away from Tokyo!
Only an Hour and a Half Away from Tokyo!
Oyama Senmaida is known as the closest terraced rice field to Tokyo, and the access is excellent! If you have a car, it's convenient to access by car, taking about 30 minutes from either "Kyonan Hodda IC" or "Kimitsu IC", and a total of about 90 minutes from Tokyo. As you go further, enjoy the scenery that gradually changes to rich nature, and head there for a relaxing drive! For those using public transportation, transfer to a local bus from "Awa-Kamogawa Station" on the JR Sotobo Line, and after getting off at the "Kamanuma" bus stop, it's about a 20-minute walk to arrive. There is also a car rental office near "Awa-Kamogawa Station", so it's a good idea to rent a car from there if you find it inconvenient to transfer buses or on rainy days!

Parking

Oyama Senmaida Use the nearby free parking lot outside of peak season
Use the nearby free parking lot outside of peak season
There is a free parking lot near the observation deck of Oyama Senmaida that can accommodate about 30 cars. During rice planting season or events, priority is given to cars belonging to the rice terrace owners, schools, tour buses, and others, but on days when there is nothing special going on, you can use this parking lot smoothly. During the annual "Terrace Night Festival" held in the fall, the surrounding roads are closed to traffic and the parking lot quickly fills up, so it's recommended to use the parking lot at the "Kamogawa City Comprehensive Sports Facility," which is temporarily opened for free during that time. Also, during the lighting-up period on weekends around 4-6 pm, it tends to get crowded, so it's recommended to patiently wait in line or visit on a weekday if possible.
