Highlights

Point 1

The World's Most Beautiful Starbucks

Toyama Canal Kansui Park The World's Most Beautiful Starbucks
Many people may be surprised to hear that the world's most beautiful Starbucks is located in Toyama. The basis for this claim is the "Store Design Award" that was awarded in the 2000s. Since then, it has been designated as a "Starbucks Regional Landmark Store" (a store selected by Starbucks for its superior design) from among the Starbucks stores in Japan. This Starbucks showcases different types of beauty depending on the season and time of day. During the day, it blends in with the lush green park. At night, it is lit up and its reflection in the river is incredibly photogenic. It's also recommended during cherry blossom season and autumn foliage season.
Point 2

Seasonal Illumination Fantasy

Toyama Canal Kansui Park Seasonal Illumination Fantasy
The "Light Up Fantasy" at Kanmizu Park is a popular attraction for couples and tourists, featuring romantic illuminations that can be enjoyed from various angles. From sunset until 10:00 pm every day, there are scheduled light displays. The patterns of the displays change with the seasons, and they always leave a mysterious and lasting impression. Special patterns can be seen during specific periods, such as fireworks in summer (August), Christmas (December), and Valentine's Day (February).
Point 3

Enjoy a Cruise from the Canal to the Sea

Toyama Canal Kansui Park Enjoy a Cruise from the Canal to the Sea
The "Fuji-Iwa Waterway Line" is a canal cruise that connects Kansui Park to the sea at Iwase. There are four vessels available for boarding: the prefectural passenger ships "Kansui," "Fugan," and "Sora," as well as the city's electric boat "Momiji." In addition to regular operations, charter services are also available. The number one highlight is the Nakajima Lock Gate, built in 1934. You can experience a powerful water elevator with a height difference of 2.5 meters. On clear days, you can also enjoy a spectacular view of the Tateyama mountain range while leisurely cruising.
Point 4

Observing Water Birds Through Glass

Toyama Canal Kansui Park Observing Water Birds Through Glass
The "Aino Island Bird Sanctuary" is an artificial paradise for wild birds that was created in what was originally a boat landing. Various birds and aquatic creatures gather there, with small islands, coves, and reed beds arranged throughout. The "Bird Observation House," where you can observe the creatures that gather there, is fan-shaped to provide a wide view, and since it is completely covered in glass, the birds seem to feel safe and will come right up to you. Binoculars are also available, so why not take a peek at this oasis in the middle of the city?
Point 5

Regularly Enjoy a Water Curtain

Toyama Canal Kansui Park Regularly Enjoy a Water Curtain
The "Fountain and Waterfall Square" located right at the entrance of Kansui Park is composed of a water curtain and fountains. There is a corridor where the waterfall flows from the top for five minutes every 20 minutes. From inside the corridor, you can see the back of the waterfall and enjoy the scenery swaying through the curtain. From sunset to 10 pm every day, it is lit up, creating a beautiful fantasy world.
Point 6

Stroll while Gazing at the Tateyama Mountain Range

Toyama Canal Kansui Park Stroll while Gazing at the Tateyama Mountain Range
The Tateyama Mountain Range has been sung about in ancient poetry such as the Manyoshu and has also been an object of worship. Its majestic appearance has become a symbol of Toyama's landscape. Depending on the weather, you can see the Tateyama Mountain Range from the Kansui Park, and the collaboration between the blue sky, lush green grass, and the Tateyama Mountain covered in snow overhead is breathtakingly beautiful. Kansui Park has a promenade along the river and flower beds on its spacious grounds, making it perfect for walking and strolling. Please enjoy the scenery of each season.
Point 7

The Romantic Spot of Tenmon Bridge

Tenmon Bridge has a unique shape that looks like three ends combined, and along with the Spring and Waterfall Plaza, it is a symbolic presence of the Tomioka Canal Ring Water Park. From the observation towers at both ends, you can see the entire park and the Tateyama mountain range in the distance, making it a scenic spot. In addition, there is a 58-meter-long red telephone attached between the observation towers, allowing you to actually talk to someone on the other side. It's rumored to be a secret spot for love confessions.

Parking

Toyama Canal Kansui Park High Competition for Free Parking
High Competition for Free Parking
At Toyama Canal Ring Water Park, there are about 170 free parking spaces available. The available hours are from 9:00 to 21:45, and due to its proximity to Toyama Station, there is a constant stream of users even on weekdays, not just weekends and holidays. If it's crowded, you may have to use a paid parking lot in the surrounding area, but the recommended one is the "Kansui Park Multi-level Parking Lot." If you use the park or the Toyama Museum of Art, you can get two hours of free parking. It's a hidden gem of a parking lot on the side of the Japanese Red Cross Hospital. Another recommended option is the parking lot of the Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art. Here, users of both the museum and Kansui Park can park for free for two hours if they settle the payment in advance. Wouldn't it be nice to park a little more affordably?

Access

A Park Within Walking Distance from the Station
The Toyama Canal Loop Promenade Park is located about a 10-minute walk from the north exit of Toyama Station. The area around the station is bustling with development, and there are neatly arranged rows of trees, making it a perfect course for a leisurely walk to the park. If you use a bus, it takes about 3 minutes from the bus terminal at the north exit of Toyama Station. If you go by car, there is a free parking lot in the park, but it is often crowded, so please check the parking information in the surrounding area.

History

Toyama Canal Kansui Park Viewing Toyama's History from the Canal
Viewing Toyama's History from the Canal
The Tomiyama Canal Ring Water Park was completed in 1935. Factories were attracted to the riverbank, accelerating Toyama's industrial development. Eventually, shipping using the canal fell out of use, causing the river to become polluted and even considered for reclamation. However, in 1985, it was decided that the north side of Toyama Station would be redeveloped, and the Tomiyama Canal was reborn as a valuable urban waterside space.
