This vast plateau is lined with wetland plants and birch forests, and is home to wild colonies of skunk cabbage. A Scenic Spot in the Southwest of Niigata Prefecture
Myoko Kogen is a scenic spot located in the highlands of the southwestern part of Niigata Prefecture. When accessing the area, it's recommended to use the Hokuriku Shinkansen and get off at "Joetsu Myoko Station". From there, transfer to the Echigo Tokimeki Railway and it's about a 35-minute ride to "Myoko Kogen Station". If you plan to visit popular spots within Myoko Kogen, it's also recommended to use the Myoko Sanroku Line, which circulates around hot springs and tourist spots.

駐車場のすぐ目の前がビジターセンターになっており、ビル2階分はある建物の1面がガラス張りで妙高山を一望出来ます。リクライニングシートが何席もあり、のんびりコーヒー等飲みながら妙高山を眺めていられます。 私の母は足が悪いですがセンターで寛いでもらい、自分は10~15分くらいで池周りを1周してくる。そんな過ごし方も出来ると思います。ちなみに私の写真は5月GW のものです。

雪のイモリ池はお手軽にスノーハイクできる素敵な場所でした。雪が締まってれば長靴でも良いけど、スノーシューズがあれば楽ちんです。池の平にある酒屋さんで1500円で借りれました。

妙高山はここから眺めるのが、一番良いように感じます。 外輪山に守られた主峰がひときわ高くそびえ、妙高山の特徴をもっとも端的に表している。 日の出からわずか1時間ほどのあいだに日の当たる場所(手前の森や山腹、妙高山の山頂付近)が次々と変わっていくにつれ、風景や印象が随分変わることに気付きました。 どれが良いかなあ。
