This castle, built in the 13th year of the Keicho era, towers over a small hill facing the sea and is known as the "floating castle on the sea" due to its appearance. The view from the observation deck inside the castle is magnificent, offering a panoramic view of Matsuura Lagoon, Niji no Matsubara, and the islands floating in the sea.

Learn about the History and Culture of Karatsu Castle

Karatsu Castle was built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi's vassal, Terazawa Hirotaka, and prospered as a castle town during the Edo period. Currently, a simulated main tower and a reconstructed watchtower have been built, and it is used as a tourist facility. Inside the main tower, there are exhibits about the history of Karatsu Castle and Karatsu pottery, making it a recommended spot for those interested in history and culture.

Visit Karatsu Castle with Easy Access

The access method to Karatsu Castle is about a 20-minute walk from JR Karatsu Station. It is also accessible by car, and parking is available. The convenience of direct access by subway from Hakata Station in about 2 hours is also attractive. There are also many accommodation facilities in the surrounding area of Karatsu City, making it convenient as a base for sightseeing!

Use the Convenient Parking Lot for Easy Access

There is a large parking lot right next to Karatsu Castle, called the Higashi-jo Uchi Parking Lot, which can accommodate about 190 regular-sized cars for a fee. The fee is 100 yen for up to one hour, 300 yen for one to two hours, and 400 yen for more than two hours. The night fee is a flat rate of 300 yen. Although the parking lot is paid, it's recommended because of its prime location right in front of the tourist spot.

唐津城は、豊臣秀吉の家臣：寺沢志摩守広高が慶長7年（1602年）から7か年の歳月を費やして完成しました。築城には名護屋城の遺材を活用したと伝えられています。城を中心とした砂浜と松原が翼を広げた鶴のように見えることから、別名「舞鶴城」とも呼ばれています。その城主には、寺沢、大久保、松平、土井、水野、小笠原の各大名が任ぜられています。明治10年に本丸跡は舞鶴公園となり、唐津城築城当初は、天守閣はありませんでしたが、昭和41年に文化観光施設として天守閣が建てられました。

唐津城は、天守閣の最上階から眺める景色が本当に素晴らしかったです！唐津湾や大島へ続く西の浜、そして唐津市の城下町を一望できる360度の絶景が広がり、晴れやかな気分になりました。ただし、風が強い日もあるので、帽子などが飛ばされないように注意が必要です。唐津城までは、唐津駅からレンタサイクルでのんびり約7～8分で到着。麓の駐車場に自転車を停めると、かわいい猫ちゃんが出迎えてくれました。天守閣へは徒歩か有料エレベーターで向かいます。徒歩の場合は少し急な石段を登る必要がありますが、距離はそれほど長くありません。帰りにはエレベーターを利用すると楽です。また、トイレは天守閣の内部と外部の両方にあり、とても清潔でした。天守閣内部は歴史博物館として整備されており、唐津城の歴史をじっくり学ぶことができます。観光と歴史学習を兼ね備えた、とても素敵なスポットです！

松浦川の河口の左岸、満島山に築かれた平山城。城から左右に広がる砂浜が翼を広げた鶴の様に見えることから「舞鶴城」の別名があります。唐津藩の初代藩主寺沢広高によって1602年から1608年にかけて築城されました。天守から眺める唐津湾と虹の松原の景観は絶景でした！また、城下の松浦川にかかる橋から眺めるお城もフォトジェニックです。ちなみにこの天守は昭和に観光施設として建築されたものですが、お城が機能していた江戸時代に天守閣が建築されたことは無いという大変珍しいエピソードを持っています。他、城内には立派な藤棚がありますので、5月初旬には見事な花を見ることができると思います。 ■予約：不要 ■料金：観覧料（500円） ■アクセス性：JR線「唐津駅」徒歩15分。昭和バス「唐津城入口」徒歩2分
