A major center of mountain worship that has continued since the Asuka period.
The Ishizuchi Shrine has played an important role as a major center of mountain worship on Mount Ishizuchi since ancient times. It consists of four shrines, and the path to the Okumiya Summit Shrine, which is built at the top of Mount Ishizuchi, is steep. We hope you will visit this spot and experience the feeling that can only be tasted by those who have overcome this challenge.

Features & How to Enjoy

Classic History

Highlights

Point 1

Receive a Blessing from Three Sacred Images

Ishizuchi Shrine (Okumiya Summit Shrine) Receive a Blessing from Three Sacred Images
At the summit shrine, three sacred images representing the virtues of "carrying a ball," "carrying a mirror," and "carrying a sword" are enshrined. It is said to be the most powerful place in Ishizuchi Shrine, and anyone can directly touch the sacred images and receive the blessing of "entering the inner sanctuary"! Why not touch the sacred images and receive their blessings while you're here?
Point 2

Experience the Feeling of Training on the Path to the Summit

Ishizuchi Shrine (Okumiya Summit Shrine) Experience the Feeling of Training on the Path to the Summit
At the summit shrine, located at the top of the mountain, there are four "chain practice areas" along the path, including the Trial Chain, First Chain, Second Chain, and Third Chain. The total length of the chains is a whopping 230 meters, allowing you to climb steep rocky terrain using the chains. These chains were installed to help people abandon their impure thoughts and experience a state of selflessness, and we can also experience a part of this training. Please challenge yourself while being mindful of safety!
Point 3

Participate in the Oyamabiraki Festival if the timing is right

The "Oyamabiraki Festival" is held annually from July 1st to 10th, and is a festival where tens of thousands of worshippers from all over the country come to visit. Normally, the sacred image is kept at the main shrine, but during this period it is moved to the top shrine. During this time, the sound of bells and conch shells echo throughout Mt. Ishizuchi, creating a lively atmosphere. If you visit during this period, why not experience it for yourself?
Point 4

Enjoy a Slow Life Mountain Climb with a Stay at the Summit Lodge

Ishizuchi Shrine (Okumiya Summit Shrine) Enjoy a Slow Life Mountain Climb with a Stay at the Summit Lodge
From early May to early November, you can stay at the Summit Lodge located at the top of the mountain. While it's possible to visit Mount Ishizuchi and Ishizuchi Shrine for a day trip, staying overnight allows you to enjoy a leisurely climb and visit. On the first floor, there is a shop, rest area, and dining hall, which are open every day during this period and can be used even if you're not staying overnight. Please note that reservations are required for overnight stays.
Point 5

Get a Stamp after Visiting

There are four different locations within Ishizuchi Shrine where you can get a stamp. If you've made it all the way to the top, why not get a beautiful stamp as a souvenir? Even if you've never collected stamps before, original stamp books are available for purchase, so why not start collecting stamps now? However, it's important to note that at the summit shrine, staff are only present from May 1st to November 3rd, so those collecting stamps should be aware of this.

Parking

Ishizuchi Shrine (Okumiya Summit Shrine) Parking is necessary before mountain climbing
Parking is necessary before mountain climbing
As the Iwakura Mountain (Okumiya Summit Shrine) is located at the summit of the Iwakura Mountain, it cannot be directly accessed by car. Therefore, it is necessary to park your car in a parking lot before climbing. There are two main parking lots: the first is the parking lot at the "Jojusha (Ropeway Front Bus Stop)", and the second is the parking lot at the "Do-goya (Iwakura Do-goya Bus Stop)". Additionally, if you are going to the Iwakura Shrine, there is a free parking lot available for around 300 cars.
