From mid-June to mid-July, the iris flowers at Mogoshiji Temple are in full bloom. The iris flowers at Mogoshiji Temple were planted in response to a proposal by the citizens of Hiraizumi in 1953, and the following year, they received 100 species and 100 plants from Meiji Shrine in Tokyo. Since then, the number and variety of iris flowers have gradually increased, and now you can enjoy viewing 30,000 iris flowers of 300 species. Every year, the "Mogoshiji Ayame Festival" is held as a highlight of the iris flowers. In addition to the beautiful scenery, you can also enjoy dance performances, children's sketching sessions, and Japanese music concerts.

Historic Temple Registered as a World Heritage Site
Motsu-ji Temple is a historic temple that originated from the "White Deer Legend," in which Kobo Daishi met a white deer that was the incarnation of Yakushi Nyorai during his tour of Tohoku in 850. At its peak, the temple had 40 towers and 500 monks' quarters, and was said to be as magnificent as the main hall of Chuson-ji Temple, also located in Hiraizumi. In the first year of the Heian period, a new main hall was built. Enjoy the historic atmosphere and beautiful scenery of this temple, which has been designated as both a special historic site and a special scenic spot by the Japanese government.

Motsuji Temple is a temple located in the Hiraizumi area of Iwate Prefecture, where historically valuable buildings stand. The nearest station is Hiraizumi Station, which is about 9 minutes from JR Tohoku Main Line's Ichinoseki Station, 47 minutes from Hanamaki Station, and 1 hour and 7 minutes from Morioka Station. By the way, it takes about a 7-minute walk or a 3-minute drive from Hiraizumi Station to Motsuji Temple. Also, it's a good idea to plan for about an hour or so for the time required for worship.
