The shortest travel time is about 2 hours and 15 minutes. From Gekkoji Onsen Station, it's about a 20-minute walk to the hot spring area. If coming by car, use the Shin-Tomei Expressway. From Tokyo, take the expressway via Gotemba JCT to Shin-Shimizu JCT, then take the Chubu-Yokan Expressway and get off at the Gekkoji Onsen Hayakawa IC. History

A Historic Hot Spring that Healed Shingen Takeda

Shimobu Onsen is a hot spring resort with such charm that it has been selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Famous Hot Springs. It is said that this hot spring healed the wounds that Shingen Takeda received in battle. Shingen Takeda and many other wounded soldiers came to Shimobu Onsen for hot spring therapy and experienced its effectiveness. Shimobu Onsen has historical value and is known as Shingen Takeda's secret hot spring. However, it was actually an officially recognized hot spring of the Takeda family and has been used as a therapeutic hot spring since the time of Shingen's son, Shintora. Therefore, the atmosphere of the hot spring facility that gives a sense of history and the warmth of the local people are also one of its attractions.
