Highlights

Point 1

Art Museum Architecture Inspired by Excavation Sites

Aomori Prefectural Museum of Art Art Museum Architecture Inspired by Excavation Sites
The Aomori Museum of Art was designed with inspiration from the excavation site of the nearby "Sannai-Maruyama Jomon Site". The ground is cut geometrically like the trenches of the excavation site. The exhibition space is a highly robust space where the white "white cube" exhibition room set in the mass and the "soil" exhibition room where the soil floor and walls are exposed in the gap coexist while conflicting. Exhibitions are held there, and the soil floor and walls are partially destroyed and repaired each time. Visitors to the museum are encouraged to not only pay attention to the exhibited works, but also to walk around the museum while taking note of the exhibition space.
Point 2

The Arecor Hall is a large space with a vertical and horizontal length of 21 meters, a height of 19 meters, and four floors of open space. In this exhibition room, one of the masterpieces of 20th-century stage art, the background painting of the ballet "Alekko" by Marc Chagall (1887-1985), is exhibited. Four huge backgrounds are displayed along with the story of the ballet, making it an exhibition that can be enjoyed even by those who do not know the content of the ballet.
Point 3

The Symbol of the Art Museum: "Aomori Dog"

In the outdoor space located on the west side of the art museum, there is a three-dimensional artwork of a giant dog called "Aomori Dog." It is approximately 8.5 meters tall and 6.7 meters wide. This piece was created by Yoshitomo Nara, a prominent artist from Hirosaki City who is active both domestically and internationally. The sculpture of the dog, which is somewhat melancholic, attracts the sympathy of many people living in the complex modern society. With the changing of the seasons, the sculpture shows various expressions, and like a Buddhist statue, it has the charm of enveloping the viewer. "Aomori Dog" is loved by many as the symbol of the art museum.
Point 4

Unique Exhibitions are Being Held

Aomori Prefectural Museum of Art Unique Exhibitions are Being Held
The exhibitions at the Aomori Museum of Art feature unique displays that are rarely seen in major cities like Tokyo. For example, the "Museum Composting Project" is an art project that opens up the potential for the museum to become a social exchange facility through collaboration with the local community. Aomori Prefecture is home to not only the Aomori Museum of Art, but also many other art museums that attract visitors, such as the "Towada City Contemporary Art Museum" and the "Hachinohe City Museum of Art". Why not plan a trip to visit the art museums of Aomori Prefecture?
Point 5
