Highlights

Point 1

The Beautiful Valley Born from a Million Years

Towers of Hetsuri The Beautiful Valley Born from a Million Years
Tadami River Canyon is a scenic spot that represents Minami Aizu, with "Hetsuri" meaning cliffs in the local dialect. As the name suggests, the rocks stand towering like a tower. The beautiful form created over an extremely long period of time is wonderful, and it was designated as a natural monument of the country in 1943. Over about 200 meters, strange rocks are lined up, and you will be overwhelmed by their appearance, which has been repeated by erosion and weathering. The valley, born over a million years, is the perfect place to feel the "mystery of nature"!
Point 2

A Must-See View of Towering Rocks and Autumn Foliage

Towers of Hetsuri A Must-See View of Towering Rocks and Autumn Foliage
Towanohetsuri is a popular spot for autumn foliage among the many attractions along the Oukawa Line. The leaves of oak and maple trees bloom in full force, covering the rock walls, usually from late October. The contrast between the foliage and the reflection on the water is stunning, making it a popular spot for photography. The charm of Towanohetsuri is that you can enjoy the breathtaking scenery throughout the year, such as the fresh greenery of spring or the snowfall of early winter. Why not experience the different charms of each season?
Point 3

Enjoy a Thrilling Atmosphere

Towers of Hetsuri Enjoy a Thrilling Atmosphere
At Tawarayama, you can walk on the parts that have been eroded and carved out by weathering and erosion. To get to the cliff, you have to cross a large suspension bridge, but only up to 30 people can cross at once. Experience the thrill of swaying and hearing sounds. Once you cross the suspension bridge, you will reach the eroded path. Be careful not to fall into the river as there are no handrails. It's recommended to wear comfortable shoes such as sneakers.
Point 4

Receive Blessings from the "Kokū Bosatsu Statue"

Towers of Hetsuri Receive Blessings from the "Kokū Bosatsu Statue"
After crossing a large suspension bridge, you will find a temple enshrining the "Kokū Bosatsu Statue," where you can easily pay your respects. It is said that this temple was built by Sakanoue no Tamuramaro in 807 and was rebuilt during the Edo period. The Bodhisattva is enshrined in a dimly lit cave, and the temple is popular as a power spot for its blessings of academic success and business prosperity. When the head priest is present, you can receive a temple seal and further blessings.
Point 5

Enjoy Shopping at the Souvenir Corner

At the base of the tower, there are several shops where you can enjoy meals and shopping. In particular, "grilled salted ayu" is popular even among locals. Why not take a bite of the crispy grilled ayu? They also offer local gourmet dishes such as mountain vegetable soba/udon and grilled dango. The souvenir corner is also lined with various local specialties from Aizu, making it hard to choose just one. After filling your stomach with a meal, why not try finding your favorite item at the souvenir corner?
