Separated from the open sea by rocks formed from volcanic rock, the waves are very calm. Jodogahama A Natural Phenomenon of Seawater Spouting from the Ground: Choshihokyo
Choshihokyo is located on the coast between the Hiji district and the Rikuchu-Miyako Resort Area, on the north side of Jodogahama Beach. There is a sea cave formed by wave erosion under the Choshihokyo, which connects to the surface. The top of the hole is spindle-shaped, with a length of 2.5 meters and a maximum width of 65 centimeters. When a big wave hits, seawater spouts out due to the pressure of the wave. The height of the seawater spout varies depending on the wave conditions, but it can reach up to 30 meters, especially during rough waves and strong northeast winds, creating a spectacular sight. A Scenic Spot with a Landscape Like Paradise
Jodogahama Beach is located in the center of the Sanriku Reconstruction National Park and Sanriku Geopark, and is a representative scenic spot of Miyako City. The contrast between the green of the pine trees, the white of the rocks, and the deep blue of the sea is truly worth seeing.
