Located in the Iwai region, this waterfall is 15m high and 14m wide. Near the waterfall basin is the famous 'Ai Tsubo' where the Buddhist monk Jikaku Daishi is said to have dried his clothes. The waterfall is a popular spot for photography due to the contrast of the surrounding scenery with the cascading water.

Access

Access the Waterfall with a 45-Minute Drive from Hiraizumi-Maesawa IC!
To access the Iwai Waterfall by public transportation, take the local line from Ichinoseki Station to Hiraizumi Station, which takes about 10 minutes. Then transfer to a bus and get off at the Oodaira bus stop on the Iwakawa Line, which takes about 50 minutes. From there, it's about a 60-minute walk to the waterfall. If you are driving, it's about a 45-minute drive from Hiraizumi-Maesawa IC. There are signs along the way, so you can follow them to reach the waterfall.

頑張って行く甲斐があります。ダム訪問のついでに…滝があると聞きさらに奥へと進みました! 迫力ある滝ですよ~ 橋からは見えないので近くに行く必要があります。 ただ階段降りるのなかなか急ですから、女性は大変かも^^;ウチの妻は降りましたけど… 7月に行ったので涼しくて良いなぁと思いつつ…熊が出ないかとても心配で長居出来ませんでした。いつ熊が出てもおかしくないほど山奥です。 車もまず通りません。道は細いですが滅多に対向車来ません。一応待避所は何ヶ所かあります。

三段の滝。一段目は人口で歩道からかすかに見える程度。二段目と三段目のつながりが美しく見渡せる展望台と、三段目の川辺に降りられる遊歩道は、入り口が別で繋がっていない。 無理やり降りた跡があるのも納得だけど、危ないし、自然保護のためやめましょう。 道が細く、なかなかの奥地なので人気無さそうで、逆に気に入りました。 ただ滝を眺めてチェアリングで2時間半いましたが、一度も他の客を見ていません。

ダムのあたりから道が細くなり、案内もなくなるので若干わかりにくいです。 Yahoo!カーナビだと案内されないのでご注意ください。 雰囲気のある素敵な滝でした。 が、アブの量がとんでもなく、早々に退散しました。 夏場に行くのはおすすめしません。 また、下段の滝の近くに行ける道は閉鎖されていました。
