Date Masamune rebuilt the temple by gathering top-notch craftsmen.
This temple was completed over a period of five years by 130 master craftsmen invited by Date Masamune. There are still many remains on the grounds, and the main hall and storehouse have been designated as national treasures. The luxurious and gorgeous fusuma paintings and carvings in the main hall, which make abundant use of gold, give a sense of the Azuchi-Momoyama culture.

Within the grounds of Zuiganji Temple, you can enjoy beautiful scenery throughout the seasons, such as the Garyubai plum tree that Date Masamune brought back from Korea during the Imjin War, and autumn leaves that color the grounds in the fall. In spring, the plum blossoms are in full bloom, and in summer, the lush green trees bring a cool breeze to Zuiganji. The autumn leaves turn a bright red, and in winter, the scenery is covered in snow. Please soothe your heart while enjoying the beautiful scenery throughout the seasons.

At Zuiganji Temple, visitors are given a stamp called "goshuin". By bringing your stamp book and visiting, you can experience the history and culture of Zuiganji Temple. In the main hall, godaido hall, sanshodo hall, and shitera corridors, different goshuin stamps are given. Since they are handwritten, it takes time to complete, so it is recommended to leave your stamp book and then visit. Stamp books are also a wonderful item to remember your travels. Next to the approach to Zuiganji Temple, there are cave ruins. The presence of caves with memorial towers and pagodas carved into the rock face is truly worth seeing. History

A Historic Temple, the Final Resting Place of Date Masamune
Zuiganji Temple is a historic temple said to have been founded by the great Buddhist monk Jikaku Daishi in 828. It is also the final resting place of Date Masamune, a famous warlord. The temple's grand complex, which Masamune poured his heart and soul into building, is a notable feature. The main hall, which conveys the aesthetics of the Momoyama period, has been designated as a national treasure. In 2018, a major renovation was completed, allowing visitors to appreciate the temple's original appearance.

伊達政宗公の菩提寺として、北条時頼公由来の中世円福寺を復興する形で建立されました。なので正式名称は「松島青龍山瑞巌円福禅寺」といいます。 初代藩主の菩提寺だけあって格式がすごく高いお寺です。瑞巌寺周りの岩窟群には初代住職からのお墓があります。本堂は当時の美術・芸術の粋を極めた造りになっています。内部は撮影が禁止されています。

宮城県の瑞巌寺を訪れました。 松島湾に面したこの寺院は、まさに「日本三景」にふさわしい風光明媚なロケーションにあり、その美しさと歴史に圧倒されます。 瑞巌寺は伊達政宗公が建立したとされるお寺で、境内には彼の力強さと美意識を感じさせる独特の雰囲気が漂っています。 まさにパワースポットとしても知られ、多くの方が心身を整えるために訪れているようです。 広い境内には国宝の本堂や杉並木があり、散策するだけで心が癒やされます。 本堂の内部は見事な彫刻や金箔が施された装飾が施されており、時間を忘れて見入ってしまいました。 また、松島湾を望む景色も素晴らしく、四季折々の風景が楽しめます。 駐車場は近隣に複数あり、利用料金は1回300~500円程度でした。 休日の昼間は混雑していることが多いので、朝早い時間帯の訪問がおすすめです。 私が訪れた日も少し混んでいましたが、広々とした境内なので人混みを気にせずゆっくり過ごせました。 歴史好きの方や自然に癒やされたい方には特におすすめです。 瑞巌寺と松島の絶景をセットで楽しむことで、心も体もリフレッシュできると思います。 また訪れたいと思える素晴らしい場所でした。

素晴らしい建造物です!12/3紅葉がまだ綺麗でした!拝観料大人1名700円でした。 建物内は撮影禁止ですが外の景色は撮影OKだそうです!素晴らしい枝垂れ桜があったので! 桜が咲いたらきっと素敵な景色が見れると思います!春もオススメです! 駐車場は 近くに1時間300円のタイムズの駐車場がありました!
