Meiji Mura is an open-air museum where Meiji-era architecture is the main focus, with buildings from the Taisho and early Showa periods also being relocated and preserved. There are various buildings to see, such as the "Imperial Hotel" designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, a master of 20th century architecture, the "St. Xavier's Church" with beautiful stained glass in a Gothic style, and houses that were rented by Meiji literary figures Mori Ogai and Natsume Soseki. One of the museum's features is that you can not only see historically significant buildings from the outside, but also enter and tour the inside of the buildings. It's recommended for history buffs and those interested in architecture, as you can feel the culture of the Meiji era firsthand.
Point 2

Experience Gourmet from the Meiji Era

The Meiji era laid the foundation for Japanese food culture with dishes such as beef, curry rice, and castella cake. You can now taste the flavors of that time with gourmet dishes that have been recreated. At the "Gourmet Cafe" in 4-chome, you can try the curry recipe from the Meiji era romance gourmet novel "Shokudo Roku." In addition, you can taste the "Gyunabe" that became popular in Yokohama in the early Meiji era, said to have been imitating the meat-eating habits of foreigners, at "Oi Beef Shop" in 1-chome. It's sure to be a special memory! It's also recommended to take a stroll around the village with perfect snacks for walking such as "croquettes," "Ogura dogs," and "curry bread" in hand.
Point 3

Ride on the Oldest Steam Locomotive in Japan!

In 1872, the first railway in Japan opened and operated between Shinbashi and Yokohama. At Meiji Village, steam locomotives No. 12 and No. 9, which have been running since that time, connect "SL Nagoya Station" and "SL Toukyau Station". It's rare not only in Japan but also worldwide to be able to ride on a steam locomotive that is actually in operation! You can experience a valuable moment feeling the atmosphere of the Meiji era. In addition, there are many highlights in the operation, such as the coupling and turning operations that reproduce the same operation as at that time. A one-time ticket can be purchased for 500 yen for adults and 300 yen for children.
Point 4

Beautiful Scenery to Enjoy Throughout the Year

Meiji Mura Museum Beautiful Scenery to Enjoy Throughout the Year
In spring, various flowers bloom, especially cherry blossoms. Every year, you can enjoy about 1000 cherry blossom trees, including weeping cherry blossoms from late March, Somei Yoshino cherry blossoms from early April, and double cherry blossoms from mid-April. In summer, colorful flowers such as hydrangeas, morning glories, and sunflowers bloom, and the village is open until 9 pm as "Meiji Village at Night" for a limited time, where you can see fireworks. In autumn, "Meiji Village Sparkle" is held, where you can enjoy illuminated autumn leaves and buildings together. During the Christmas season in winter, each church is decorated, and Christmas masses and concerts are held. There are many attractions that make you want to visit again and again, changing with the seasons.
Point 5

Convenient Access from Nagoya and Gifu

There are also convenient transportation options available, such as a 1-day free pass that includes a bus between Meiji Village and Inuyama Station on the Meitetsu train line, as well as a direct express bus from Nagoya Station and Sakae Station to Meiji Village. You won't have any trouble getting there. Why not visit with your family and friends?
Point 6

There are two types of courses available: a "commemorative photo course" where you can wear the costumes and take a 5-minute photo, and a "strolling course" where you can freely explore the park. When you stroll around dressed in Meiji era-style hakama, you'll feel like you've slipped back in time. This is especially recommended for those who want to enjoy taking photos. Let's find your favorite spot while taking commemorative photos and strolling around.

In addition, many buildings such as "St. Francis Xavier Church" in the TV drama "Kurosagi" and "Museido" at "Fourth High School Martial Arts Dojo" in the movie "King of Apologies" have been featured. Experience a Outdoor Museum with a Sense of the Meiji Era
The "Meiji Village Museum" in Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture, was established in 1965. The founding of Meiji Village began with the desire to "save modern architecture from the fate of demolition." Without Meiji Village, it seems that the Imperial Hotel and Natsume Soseki's house would have been destined for demolition. The number of relocated and restored buildings so far exceeds 60. Meiji Village, which has the third largest area in Japan at approximately one million square meters, is divided into five areas from 1-chome to 5-chome. Recently, various events such as puzzle solving and real escape games have been held as outdoor events, not just visiting buildings. "See, experience, eat, and buy" - it's a tourist spot where the whole family can enjoy all day from adults to children.
