Toyokawa Inari is one of Japan's Three Great Inari Shrines, known throughout the country for its power to bring business prosperity. It is a temple of the Soto Zen sect and was founded about 580 years ago during the Muromachi period. It has been revered by many historical figures such as Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Tokugawa Ieyasu, and literary figures such as Watanabe Kazan. The precincts of Toyokawa Inari cover about 13 hectares and include notable features such as the main hall, built entirely of zelkova wood, and the Toyokawa Kaku treasure hall. The biggest feature is the more than 1,000 white fox statues, both large and small, which are believed to grant many wishes, including business prosperity, household safety, traffic safety, and academic success. 正式には妙厳寺(みょうごんじ)という千手観音菩薩を本尊とする曹洞宗の仏教寺院で、永享5年(1433)、曹洞宗の僧・東海義易(とうかいぎえき)によって開かれました。 豊川稲荷は仏教寺院でありながら、「稲荷大明神」への信仰も集めています。 これは仏教の荼枳尼天信仰と、日本の稲荷信仰が融合したもので、江戸時代から庶民や武士に広く信仰されました。 荼枳尼天は白狐に乗るインド起源の女神で、五穀豊穣・商売繁盛の神として知られます。 この荼枳尼天の姿や性格が、稲荷信仰の神である「宇迦之御魂神(うかのみたまのかみ)」と似ていたため、稲荷として信仰されるようになりました。 江戸時代には、武士や町人の間で「願いがよく叶う稲荷」として人気を博し、商売繁盛・金運・芸能の守護として全国から信仰を集めました。 稲荷信仰の起源は奈良時代、京都の伏見稲荷大社がその始まりとされます。 ご祭神の宇迦之御魂神は五穀豊穣・農業の神で農民、商人、庶民層から信仰され、のちに商売繁盛や芸能、交通安全などにも広がりました。 稲荷の意味は「稲を荷(にな)う」、つまり稲穂をもたらす神ということで、もともとは五穀豊穣、農業の守り神でした。 明治新政府は国家神道の確立のため、神仏の分離を命令し、多くの寺院は「稲荷神」を祀ることを禁じられましたが、豊川稲荷は「荼枳尼天信仰」という形で生き残りました。 妙厳寺は今でも神仏習合の名残を色濃く残す稀少な例です。 境内には千体を超える狐像が並ぶ「霊狐塚」があり、願いが叶った参拝者たちが、感謝のしるしとして狐像を奉納していきました。

初めて伺いましたが、想像以上に大きなお稲荷さん。 鳥居とお寺が共存してる。 残念なのは御朱印の受付が15:30で終了すること。 また、たくさんの人が参詣するからか、巡礼通路が決められてます。 行った時は夕方で誰もいないのに。 近くの参拝者駐車場は500円、御朱印も貰えず残念すぎる。 再度、チャレンジします。

狐塚は圧巻でした。 千本織祈祷もお願いしました。 願い事を筆を使い記入するのですが難しいです。 担当していただいた職員の方の仕事ぶりには頭が下がりました。 ありがとうございます♪
